Makoto Kabayama

Okay, I haven't heard much about him, but is it true he trained under Dan Inosanto or someone in that league? Anyways, I've been given the opportunity to train privately under him. Is it worth it to spend $50/hour training privately as a student with him?

Or is it better to go to a Kung Fu school to train under Master Richard Leung (who trained under the late Grandmaster) 3 times a week?

Man, if you already have some basic experience, take up the offer to study under Makoto Kabayama. You get what you pay for. I've never heard of Master Richard Leung. If you dont have any experience already you might want to go to Leung just to get into the shape of things. If I had my choice I would go to Kabayama with a strong interest to learn and a notebook to record everything, then study with all your free time. Who knows, maybe if you impress him he might lower prices. Either way it would be an honor to study under him.

Makoto taugh JKDC at Karate College some years ago. Came all the way from Canada at his expense. He was very good with an open nonjudgemental attitude. Go for it!

I worked out with Makato Kabayama at a Gura Inosanto seminar a couple years ago now. Maybe even three. He is a very softspoken and nice guy. He is also very knowledgable.

I had/have very little experience with some of the things we did at that seminar but Makato Kabayama was very helpful and moved around the room making sure people like me weren't left without training partners. Of course I learned alot from the seminar, I also learned a lot from Makoto via hints and tips while practicing things Guru Dan had shown us.

I went and found his website after hearing some others at the conference say something about him. He was so easy going etc that I never realized I was training with such a highly regarded person. I don't take much for honorifics and titles, thinking that most people that claim themselves masters etc. are full of hot air, however if I knew that Makoto used one I'd be sure to call him by it.

I fully agree with Demi, you would be better served in training with Makoto, and if you get the chance to partner up with one Jason Lankucki, do so. Jason is one cool and funny cat as well as very talented in JKDC just like Mak. Great bunch o' guys.

Makoto would definitely be the guy to train with in Toronto! Jason's not so bad either!

Makoto also studied grappling under Larry Hartsell. He the man for sure!

And yes, Jason Lancucki is also extremely well-studied.
