Unfortunately I have contacts in the philippines who tell me that this guy is probably a Joey Perico student unless someone can prove me wrong. Until then however, I will take every JKD instructor in P.I. with a huge grain of salt. Save my JKD contacts in P.I. however.

jeet kune do in the philippines

i already asked sir leo aliviado the head instructor of the jeet kune do gym in no.24 zulueta st., san pablo city, laguna, philippines if he knows joey perico. he told me that he doesn't know joey perico. he told me that he studied jeet kune do in cebu in 1979 under sensei totsky go, ben lo and fernando cañete. he even told me that the uncle of fernando cañete is one of the most revered kali instructors in the philippines. i hope, i answered your question regarding our instructor's jeet kune do background.

I don't see how the aforementioned individuals are tied to Bruce. All legit JKD and JKD concept schools have a line tracing back to bruce. Even the Straight blast gym has a line to Bruce. How did the aforementioned individuals in Cebu come across JKD?

For your information my lineage is as follows : Lee -> Inosanto -> Tackett /Bremer -> X[for anonymity] -> myself; I also train with a group whose instructor is under the following: Lee -> Wong -> MS-> Y [again for anonymity].

          jkd?

You mentioned these 3 instructors and they teach:

Totskie Go - Choy Li Fut
Ben Lao - Ngo Ko Chun
          Fernando Canete- Eskrima

No Jkd mentioned, maybe you have been dreaming?

I have a question, can an 18 yr.old boy with no any background in Martial Arts can learn Jeet Kune Do???

I really admired Bruce Lee and his style of no style, because he says that the extraordinariness of Jeet Kune Do lies in its simplicity.

Is there really a Jeet Kune Do class here in the Philippines?

            thanks!

To be blunt, at times it is best to have no experience. You'll have less things to unlearn.

About one being in the philippines, depends on where you are in the philippines. If you're too far, it wouldn't be worth it, but he's the only guy doing the real thing.

I'm in Manila right now...Is there any instructors who know the art of Jeet Kune Do? or just give me a good class here in Manila who can teach Martial Arts such as Kung-fu or Kali/Escrima with beginners like me...I'm really interested in the art.

                Thanks!

                pEACE!

                      Hello, everyone.

Just today, while browsing the internet, I came across with this website and found the thread of discussion about JKD Philippines, particularly, Mr. Joey Perico.

At first I thought not to participate, but with the thread of messages being posted about Mr. Perico, I thought of joining in the discussion in his defense. It would not be fair if Mr. Perico is not given the opportunity to air his side and more so, you guys will not believe him if he is the one replying and defending his own.

Well, my fellow believers or practitioners in the art of self defense, I must say that Mr. Perico has dedicated himself to learn the way of the interecepting fist. I for one witnessed that for I was once his student. I am proud to say and was glad to be a part of his school.

For all intents and purposes, Mr. Perico deserves the respect because he has learned the way of the Master on his own and by dedication and commitment to the art of Master Bruce Lee. Need I remind you all that Bruce Lee created JKD out of his own. Bruce Lee once said (not necessarily in his own words)that if you have freed yourself from forms, and you have become like water taking the shape of the container, then you have created your own martial arts. I think my fellow believers, this is the essence of JKD. To be a master of your own art, the creator of your own martial art because you have taken the shape of the situation where you will use what can be used at that time. You are not bound by form.

Having said this, assuming without conceding that Mr. Perico's knowledge and teaching of JKD did not come from the descendants of Master Lee, but from the very foundation that Master Lee has imparted in his books, then my fellow artists, Mr. Perico has created an art similar to that of Mr. Lee.

Mr. Perico has taught me the basics of the way of the intercepting fist, his teachings sprung from the very foundation that Master Lee promoted while he was alive. But, if you will ask me, if he was indeed an authentic JKD Master, well, I leave that up to you my friends, because, you have to create your own art based on JKD philosophy.

Remember people, JKD is not really a style of martial arts. JKD was a name only given and conceptualized by Master Lee just for the sake of having a name. But in reality, there is no name. Every JKD practioner should take the shape of water, shapeless in form and will follow the shape only that of the container that is holding it. JKD is a way of life, it is a philosphy where you will learn to be a master of your own style.

With Mr. Perico's teachings, I have found the way of the intercepting fist.

With all due respect to Master Inosanto and the rest of Master Lee's pioneer students in JKD, they can not say that they are the only JKD disciples. To be a disciple or a believer, you must learn to follow the way and live the way.

I think and to be fair with Mr. Perico, we should credit him for learning to live up and spread the pure teachings of JKD. People like Mr. Perico, Master Inosanto and the rest, Bruce Lee's legacy to us lives.

Lastly, a true martial artist will never discredit or say bad things about a certain style or master, but instead, treat them with respect and dignity. Until you have learned the true meaning of humility in the art you promote, only then you begin to mature in your art and learn the wisdom of your art. Once you have gained control in this aspect, you are on your way to the road of being a master of your art.

Peace to you my fellow believers and may you all find the road to wisdom.

Well's that's what my friend initially said about Joey, until he went to a JKD seminar and blew all your wet dreams to smoke. Get real and attend a jkd seminar!

I would rather put my money on a guy who spent all his money going abroad to train jkd than a guy who relies on books.

I 2nd that...Head out on some seminars at minimum. It's great that you believe strongly in your instructors skills but self proclaimed JKD instructors under the direction of books as their teacher is wrong. Would you want to go to a doctor who proclaim their ability & knowledge from reading some books OR would you want to trust a doctor who had been taught by a actual teacher, guided through the knowledge along with reading the books, lead by someone who has been there (done that) and also received confirmation from a leading authority in the particular skill OR art in question. REMEMBER, i'm not doubting the fighting ability OR teaching ability OR character of your instructor BUT I have to defend JKD and Bruce's name. JUST OPINION...don't get hostile now..
