Heck, it is still "new". It's all relative.... Bhakti Negara silat was started in 1955 according to Draeger it is a mixed martial art developed from earlier styles of pentjak silat, blended with more modern Japanese Ju-jutsu, aikido and karate-do AS WELL AS WESTERN BOXING tactics...
    Ya, good point

IIRC Larry's version of grappling includes more stand-up locks than normal BJJ or MMA. You cannot always rely on the mount-and-guard structure in a street fight. It helps to be able to work a lock or choke from odd positions.
Cf. Matt Furey's "hooking" tapes also.

I practice JKD Grappling under Sifu Larry Hartsell's lineage. Try looking on our site at www.mcfannacademy.com. They provide a pretty good description.

Most of the BJJ comes from the Machado system.

I wrote the "Entering to Trapping to Grappling" book with Larry, but was unable to have my name on it as I was under contract with another publisher. This publisher did my "Hsing-i" books and threatened to sue me if I put my name on Larry's and my book. I had offered him the book 1st, but he turned it down because he didn't know who Larry was (This was a long time ago). I then offered it to Unique who accepted it. The other publisher then wanted it. (I guess he found out who Larry was), by then it was too late as the contract had been signed. I was then threatened with a lawsuit if I had my name on the book. After the book was published he took the "Hsing-i" books off the shelf and didn't reprint any. I said, "The hell with it" and had my name on the 2nd book. I irony is that I had more of my stuff in the 1st book then the 2nd. The 2nd book is mostly Larry's techniques while I wrote the text. The 1st book is about 50/50.

                Mr. Tacket,

What was the origin of the material you contributed to the 1st book? Was it a pretty close representation of JKD grappling in the china town era?
