The reason I chose JKD is because of its spar heavy nature. I think fighting is fun, but only if it is a worthy fight of people who actually know how.

So, its pretty big on sparring, since it is almost more or less a philosophy rather thna a style, you need to apply it in battle. It deals with have no style, no rigidness, so you can adapt to the situation with what will get you your objective the best. Using your own judgement.

I kinda forgot the question, so if what I wrote has nothing to do with the original post, excuse me.

      sparring is vital

if you can't fight inthe ring or spar than the street will eat you alive.
Ideally you should do 3 types of sparring if you can
      1. boxing only sparing(includind clinch work)
      2. kickboxing or mt sparring (including clinch work)
      3.mma sparing
do this and youll be on your way to being able to spar at all ranges and be able to deal with a mirid of attacks btw what kind of sparingdo you guys do in jkd? do you use any of jkd's low kicks?

Sparring is very important. One can't really learn to apply their skills until they learn to do it in an uncontrolled environment(ie. a sparring match). You can practice a skill in drills, but that will only help develop your muscle memory. This is why we learn drills before we spar. You have to crawl before you can walk. There is no subsitute for sparring however. One must consider the theory of specificity. After one becomes proficient in their training drills they must spar, and spar often.

One thing that also develops you as a fighter overall, is not to just spar with one person, but with multiple partners. Everyone one has their own fighting method, and you learn a little bit more about own method through various people.

and if you use scenerios to lead up to sparring
I have never used scenarios to lead up to sparring; other than a multiple attacker situation. But nothing like an acted situation.

you will never be able to fight or spar calmly unless you get in there and put your time in. It takes a long time to lose that nervousness, but thats what makes you be able to start bringing real technique to your game. I think, after you learn the basics, its almost impossible to get better without sparring.

                sparring

In my MT class we spar everytime and my BJJ class we roll everytime. We have on thursday nights and open sparring class where I get to spar with people all ages, sizes and styles of fighting (MT, Kempo, Kung Fu, etc...) From this I have learned to relax the mind and body. It allows me to focus on technique. Without sparring how do you know what you are capable of or what your weaknesses are?
