  • how to intersept/block this

in a street fight most people do this. they punch non stop ( left, right, left, right, etc) while advancing towards you. how do you block or intercept this? how can you be so quick to block all of those hits?

Kick to groin? Kick to the stomach? Straight hard kick to their knees? If they are too busy punching left right they will stop after they get hit w/ a kick, unless they are cyborg.

Then kick the stomach like I said, or shoot and tackle underneath the punches.

Its about timing, distance and interception. Either find an instructor or get back to the books (or vids)

Keep your hands up, and do a round house to the inner thigh. Or you can perry the punch quickly and stick a jab in his face.

Your describing Jik Chung Choi (the straight blast.) Keep in mind, if your opponent knows this technique, then he knows how to create the opening to use this effectively. If he creates the opening, your defense all depends on his energy. You will be forced backward on the defense, so a side step, followed by a groin slap is a possibility. You need to break free of his centerline, and stay on the outside, or attempt to trap him up quickly. The technique is so good, because most untrained or poorly trained fighters will all react the same, and cover their head with their arms, and back up, allowing the opponent to pick and choose his follow up. Everyone reacts differently, and the best way is to wear a helmet, and have your opponent attack with it in a sparring situation, and try different ways to counter, or escape the Jik Chung Choi. Just be careful.

I don't think he's talking about jik chung choi.

the most important thing inmop is not to back up. either go into him and get under his punches to achieve a clinch or counter attack, or evade it by circling around. whatever you do just dont lean back, or start getting backed up cause then you are done.

peoples natural instinct is to back up or lean back in trying to avoid a flury of strikes, or even just a strike. this is what will f*ck you over. leaning back and backing up just put your chin in perfect range to keep get hit.

what you need to do is fight your instinct, keep your chin down, hands up, and go into him instead. try to get under the punches if you can and get on the inside, up close to his body to clinch or strike. plus, if you get hit while going into him it can cut the power of his strikes short, smothering them and not causing much harm to you as they would if you were backing up. backiing up or leaning back will keep your chin and face in perfect range for him to keep blasting his best shots. this is also were clinching comes in. if u can get under his punches and to his body you can control him or just blast his body with shortrange uppercuts, hooks, knees, elbows.

also you can defeat this with movement. you can circle around to avoid his flurry. good footwork is important because it can allow you to trick people, evade them, counter their attacks, and bring you in and out of ranges at will.

my thai roundhouses work well to counter these kind of attacks too. when the dude rushes you, you take that 45 degree step outward to take you out of range of his hands and getting out of his path while still delivering a hard ass kick to his legs or body.

basic boxing, or mt training will adress this issue for you.

Longest weapon- closest target... your legs are longer than his arms.

                          stop kick to the knee.

Blocking leads to getting hit. Start hitting and let the other guy block

It always boggled me when I would spar with a 2nd degree black belt friend of mine in TKD. Whenever I'd rush in like that, he'd always have a quick counter, or somehow get around my punches as I wore myself out. However, when he'd rush in, I'd keep back peddling until he got me off balance enough to cream me, or I'd trip over something. Then he'd pick up a brick while I was down and raise it over his head and say, "If this was real...you'd be hurtin' bro." I asked him why he could always get around me, put I always got thrown off balace. His answer was simple, yet I rarely found myself doing because of bad practice. "Dude, whenever I attack you back up! When you attack me I just keep circling so I don't lose much ground, and I keep my balance." He would always protect his center line by anticipating the attack and immediately countering, or he's move in a circle to avoid whatever I threw. Afterwards I too started sidestepping and intercepting more, and I found out that the only way to imploy the wing chun straight blast was by entering first and Then when I was inside I would blast away.

Still one problem in my opinion...since the straight blast isn't really enough in my opinion to take someone out, it makes the fight much longer. "Enter, blast, trap, HKE (head butts, knees, elbows)", I wonder if I could do all this if more than 1 guy was fighting me!!!

I like Excessive’s stop kick, I also like the Teep, Muay Thai push kick.

Often what happens when two guys square off and come at each other is a massive train wreck collision.

Trying to block a windmill of awkward angles is like sticking your finger in leak in the dyke as another hole appears, sooner or later you can’t keep up (you run out of fingers). The problem with this ideology infers we are relegated to the realm of the “reaction” side of the axis, this means we are behind the curve. One of the insidious side effects of modern training is that it looks at a fight as being symmetrical. Most sparring as in karate, kickboxing, etc, is a prime example of this.

What has really shown to work (with repeatable results) Is agressing through our opponent using the most aggressive and efficient methods possible to dominate him.

Here for example, a wedge entry platform may perform well as it protects your head as you enter (inside of his punching range). Unless you train for this eventuality, most folks don’t know what do here because standard striking methods don’t work at this range. From here it is a bit of linebacker jitsu i.e. double chin-jab and drive them back like a NFL lineman breaking through the offensive line to get to the quarter back. Drive through. Now, we have a jump off point for many other robust options including weapons access or simply continue with an aggressive all out asymmetrical assault on your opponent. Make him react to you. Action is faster than reaction, it’s a bitch but it’s true.

Let’s get rid of this notion that street fights are like ring sports, they are not. Unless you are fighting a fucking retard then I guess you can play patty cake with him.
