    Garland,

As for your 'Eat a dick & choke on it ' etc, only goes to show how incredibly immature you are! What would Dan make of it as somebody mentioned, I think he would be deeply ashamed to be remotely connected to you.

You are incredibly ignorant on JKD, make numerous ill informed statements that are factually incorrect, & clearly have read very little on the subject.

Maybe your knowledge on other arts is a bit better if so I would recommend go to those forums & stay of the JKD one.

ODDLY ENOUGH...he appears to have had no training under any group or instructor even while making this claim, as his fourth post states, he was still looking into FINDING A TRAINER.

"Training & Getting Certified With Jerry Poteet
Am considering training & getting certified in the future with Jerry Poteet. Can anyone who has already done so, tell me their experiences? Also anyone not certified who has trained with him, would be cool to hear from.

I've never met him before, but he is a direct Bruce Lee student & obviously very knowledgable.

What is his teaching method like, is he a really good teacher that really develops an individual?

How does the certification process work - you are formally tested (like a grading) , or based more on hours trained?

Does Jerry Poteet JKD Association have different levels of Instructor? Or once certified you just keep progressing?

Future costs - after initial fee to train with Jerry , do you need to pay the same or similar for future training to progress?

To get Jerry to do seminar , is it expensive i.e, to bring him to where you are to do seminar?

Is the JPJKD Association involved with Bruce Lee Foundation - the Lee Estate?

Is it worth the money to get certified by Jerry Poteet or not? Is it you pay , you get certified or you have to work hard for it?

How 'exclusive' is the JPJKD Association are you not allowed to train with other Bruce Lee students - Jesse Glover, Ted Wong, Dan Inosanto, etc & must only train with Jerry or people in the group?

To do personal training with Jerry Poteet is expensive , so would like to hear of other peoples experiences before doing so; I read for instance on here of people's bad experiences with Paul Vunak.

Have seen all Jerry's DVD's and they are really good.

      THANK YOU!

Also if anyone knows how long did Jerry Poteet actually train with Bruce Lee , as I heard from as little as 6 months & very infrequently at classes, to a few years and trained with him often?"

Seeing as Mr. Poteet was instructed by Inosanto and Ted Lucay Lucay...I doubt ASH's mentality comes from here...which means...I don't know who, or where, or even IF ASH has EVER trained in JKD or Jun Fan under ANYONE.
      Maybe he's self taught?

Who do you train with? And what is your name? How long have you been training JKD to make you an authority on the subject, certainly less than a year based upon the "Jerry Poteet" post.

My guess is that you read a couple of books, paid a membership fee to this former nucleus group, and now simply tow their "party line". Goddamned martial arts politics.

Oh well...yeah, I should take the example from Guro Dan and be a much more reserved and nice guy...I try, but hey, like I've said before, not everyone can be a Guro Dan .

              Garland,

As others are wondering what Dan would make of this? I think he would be deeply ashamed to be even remotely connected with someone like yourself.

You talk like a 14/15 year old high school kid - 'eat a dick & choke on it' , etc. Incredibly Immature.

You have also been aptly exposed as being incredibly ignorant on JKD, and you have clearly read very little on it also, everyone can see it.

Funny...when somebody tells him to go **** himself, he starts talking all sorts of shit about ratting me out. Oh me oh my!

After all the shit he talked on Guro Dan, his whole organization, and Khuen Khru Bernales, he seems to think that they'll come to his aide and boot me from their schools because I told him to eat a dick....?

Seriously, ASH...do you even buy that bullshit? Do you think you can order everyone around? **** who you are, the better question is this; WHO THE **** DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?

                        This is where I got my info, seeing as I'm really not into the personal training history of every member of Bruce Lee's original group;

Most of your questions should be answered by Mr. Poteet himself. He is the only one who will be able to give you the cost involved with training with him and the cost involved in maintaining your certification through him. You can always train with different people....I would suggest that if you ask him about training with other original students of Bruce Lee and he gives you a less than positive answer...or if he tells you not to train with this guy or that guy for whatever reasons then I would make it a point not to train with him in the future. He is certified by Dan Inosanto. He and Ted Lucaylucay were the first two people to be certified by Dan from his backyard group.
Good luck with your training and I hope it goes well for you.

Garland... Ash...after reading both of your post on here I have come to the conclusion that you are both going to have to agree to disagree on this one. You both have your views and are both entitled to them but you will never convince the other one to see it your way and agree. Now most people would pay upwards of $200 an hour for that kind of counseling but I am giving it to you for free on here jsut because I am a nice guy and in the words of Rodney King "can't we all just get along"

Hmmm I see the problem, it's all quite clear to me now.

1 person we will call him Garland for the sake of simplicity believes JKD is about fighting and thus continues to believe that through training he will improve his fighting.

the 2nd person we will call him Ash, believe JKD is about historical references to Bruce Lee and believes a better understanding of JKD is lead through reading.

Hmmm, so if JKD is a personal interpretation of expressing the human body as it relates to combat, I can only see one answer to this.

Clarity though combat, as i never met bruce, he is not that important to me. I've read what's out there that was written by him and about him. in the tao of JKD I didn't see much I hadn't already figured out. (without training in JKD at all) seemed self evident to me, (actually it took me 6 months to figure out that the book wasn't total crap, and figure out that it was all stuff I knew just not in the same terms.)

I'm not bruce, I do not resemble a small asian man with OCD for training. Nor do I think MA begins or ends with Bruce, I didn't like any of his movies, and could have cared less who he was. But I found the people who had trained in JKD to be proficient and capable martial artists and felt that I would be served to learn what they knew. I am capable of determining for myself what works and what doesn't and i do not need to have Bruces opinion from his frame of reference help me to do this.

There are people I can learn from, Mr. Tackett, Mr. Inosanto, Mr. Richardson, etc. It does not matter if they are as good as or better than Bruce because Bruce is dead. Comparing live fighters to dead people is a waste of time.

                              Train more type less.

                                Excessive Force,

You are very ignorant about BL & JKD but I commend you for being honest enough to admit it.

I am not advocating that JKD is only about historical references to Bruce Lee, far from it! Nor only through reading.

But I recommended reading for someone like Garland as clearly he has very limited knowledge of JKD , & it is very apparent he hasn't read that much on the subject.

Train hard, realistically, and full contact - and grow!

But don't stick a bunch of diff. arts together & call it JKD , it isn't!

Who invented JKD? Bruce Lee, therefore who knows more about it than the founder? If people are claiming to do JKD but doing things that flat out contradict what Bruce Lee was advocating & go against the principles of JKD - it's simple it is not JKD!

Nothing wrong with studying a ton of diff. arts if you want to , just don't call it JKD thats all.

JKD Concepts : Jun Fan + Filipino Marial Arts, Brazilian JJ, Shootfighting, Savate, Muay Thai, etc = JKD according to them!

Another group : Jun Fan + Hapkido + Krav Maga + Systema + Western Wrestling + Capoiera = JKD.

Neither are JKD far from it, and are misleading the public.

Bruce Lee's writings tell us explicitly neither approach above is JKD at all.

The Lee Estate (his wife & daughter) tell you neither is JKD.

The subject of this thread Bruce Lee Foundation website tell you that neither is JKD.

Many of BL's direct students, will tell you neither above is JKD at all, far from it & definitely not what Bruce would have wanted.

You should not be bound by Bruce Lee nor anyone else, but on definitions/principles, etc of JKD who knows better than the founder of it - noone does!

The Bruce Lee Foundation is actively trying to reverse 30 years of damage to BL's martial art , done through approaches like above.
