  • Is this what JKD is ? What do you [think] ?

    A possible discovery ?

After studying up on Jun Fans Jeet Kune Do and also many different martial art stylings I have worked back to an ancient set of principles called Neijia. Now after much thought about what Bruce Lee was trying to teach people I have come to a possible [reason] behind Jeet Kune Do and why he went in that [direction]. I believe that Bruce was merely trying to adhere to the very principles of Neijia and develope his "inner way" and upon discovery of this [way] he felt an urge to express this to others in hope of guiding them along the path to discovery of their own "inner way" through more modern forms of wording the principles, he also felt that his training was restircting his inner self from being released and so instead of stagnating in one style he went off to discover what he was missing in himself... Did he succeed ? that will probably remain a secret but we can keep pondering it I suppose...

Here is a snippet from a site that I have been keeping my eye on a lot lately...

    ***********************************************************
Although many styles of Neijia exist around the world, three "internal" martial arts are most widely known... Taijiquan (T'ai Chi Ch'uan), Baguazhang (Pa Kua Ch'ang), and Xingyiquan (Hsing-I Ch'uan). Several other martial arts such as YiQuan (I-Ch'uan) must also be recognized because of its close adherance to the basic principles of Neijia as well as Aikido, a Japanese martial art.
    ***********************************************************

    and the page is http://qi-journal.com/action.lasso?-...onse=taiji.asp

How many would say that JKD and the Neijia have the same ideals as in they have 'arts' developed off them of their eg the various JKD schools based from Jun Fans teachings and from Neijia the arts from above eg Taijiquan ?

I [think] u have too much time on ur hands and I [think] that u are wasting ur own time with such rubbish.

I [think] Jeet Kune Do is just a philosophy that applies to martial arts and possibly other things as it may, and also thoroughly researched principles of training and combat.

I [think] Jeet Kune Do needs to be looked at as Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do, as that is what the name implies. It is simply Bruce Lee's own system of teaching that he developed with the philosophies and principles of Jeet Kune Do in mind, but nothing more and nothing less, just his own expression of martial art and his way of teaching the principles and concepts. And if he was still alive I dont think he would like people to worship him or be blindly devoted to anything he or anybody else taught, now or in the past.

I [think] Jeet Kune Do comes with a self destruct button in that once u come up against something that doesnt work for u or just doesnt make sense or u dont agree with it despite researching into its validity, u can ignore it and move on because thats how it was set out, to liberate rather than indoctrinate. Its just a name.

I [think] there are just so many people in JKD that fuss over things that Bruce Lee said, as if Jeet Kune Do had become a religion. Like people who fuss over the meaning of "absorb what is useful, reject what is not" or the meaning of "... a punch was just a punch..... was not a punch anymore... now I understand the art a punch is just a punch..". It seems everybody has a very different way of interpreting these simple sentences and take it like the words of God. If we are driven to obsession over such things, it is best to forget them for they will not serve any purpose and thats when we should use the self destruct button in Jeet Kune Do, because its just a name and those quotes are just one man's ponderings!

It was just a simple sentence and the meaning should be completely obvious and self explanatory, we shouldnt need to try to penetrate some sort of inner hidden meaning. If we do, then the words outlive their usefulness and they should be forgotten.

But JKD people especially on this site are so obsessed with JKD itself that they put themselves in conflict with what JKD is about.

    Dont make more mess.
JKD WAS FOR CLEANING UP A MESS!

Why ponder such things, when in fact they are so imponderable and abstract?

Why do u have to think so hard as to what Bruce Lee was trying to teach? Dont u see, if u have to think so hard about it, then it should be forgotten and we should find our own way. It is only a human tendency to rely on the teaching of others and try to find meaning in that rather than look at themselves, and look at what is.

If u are struggling to define JKD and pin down exactly what it is, then let JKD be wiped out because its JUST A NAME!

A "reason behind JKD"? This is just creating mess and making things more confusing. Why must we find reasons for everything? Just see JKD as it is. Read the Tao of JKD. Then if u are still not satisfied with what Bruce said about it, then just forget it because u will never find what u seek because u are looking for something that exists only in the human mind.

It is the same reason why all these religions still exist in the world. Because the concepts they set forth are so complex and convoluted and impenetrable that nobody knows what to make of them except their own little ponderings and so nobody gets anywhere with it, because it has no meaning beyond what u make of it.
The other reason is that because they are so full of absract ponderings and meanderings, nobody has ever been able to prove or disprove them as truth or otherwise and so people are still confined in their thinking and so religions still serve as an obstacle to the truth.
And the way u speak, that is how religions start up, and martial arts styles for that matter. But it only creates mess in the minds of the followers.

Why not just try to forget the complexities of our own minds and just see what is.

"For security, the unlimited living is turned into something dead, a chosen pattern that limits. To understand Jeet Kune Do, one ought to throw away all ideals, patterns, styles; in fact, he should throw away even the concepts of what is or isn't ideal in Jeet Kune Do. Can you look at a situation without naming it? Naming it, making it a word, causes fear. It is indeed difficult to see the situation simply - our minds are very complex."
        - Bruce Lee

I think that sums up what Ive been trying to say.
