  • question on Howard Williams

Does anyone know if Sifu Howard is as good and tough as internet legends would have it? Can he really punch at 110 mph, even at his current age?
If so, I would like to get ahold of his videos.

I was in the bay area recently and contacted HW for some training. He is not easy to get a hold of, and not particularly interested in passing on his knowledge, at least not to me. He does have a DVD which he may sell showing his training a group of students a few years back. I do not believe that that the DVD shows his personal performance.

I subsequently found another student of the Oakland school to train with. They have a slightly diferent approach than the gulys from LA or Seatle due to the influence of James Yimm Lee. Some of the Oakland guys say that HW could kick with a force that they only saw matched by BL.

Fenwick, I previously sent you a message re your 10.6 post

If you are looking for former students of Bruce's "Oakland school" I recomend the Macias family. www.taoofgungfu.com

In my opinion Felix Jr. has some mojo.

I am sure HW would be great too, if you can get him to respond.

        Howard....the man

I took private lessons from Howard in '91-'93 and it was awesome, what a privilege. I have lost touch with him, and yes, he is a very private person and not quick to engage with the public.

He's a very religious man, devout and determined in purpose and his path of life. His punches and kicks were just plain outrageous, fast, powerful and packed a walloping punch. My martial arts pads barely contained the force. I can't imagine he has slowed much, probably gotten faster and stronger with age.

He had a timeless soul about him, a very special human being. I feel fortunate to have trained with him. After a year and a half, he told me I could take on the average street fighter and hold my own. I felt it, it was powerful mojo. Howard, if you read this, I hope you're blessed and content. Brian.

I saw howard in new york give one of his first seminars way back in the early/mid nineties in NYC, he was really nice, he was fast but not thunderously fast. I think he had excellent skills but compared to todays level I dont think he could match up in terms of technique or speed. He was a good, patient teacher and I remember having a great time at the seminar. I liked that he believed in contact which I think is important to any training regimen at some point in your training.
