If he can kick your ass it doesn't matter who trained him.

I've seen his "JKD" footage, its laughable.

He abused his rights, seriously what type of person would wait till Bruce Lee and James Lee passed away to then doctor a letter so that it states that he was certified and no one could challenge him???

Fair enough mate, agree personality shouldnt be an issue (its something I look for though), However Dill shouldn't of used the name Jeet Kune Do to describe what he was teaching, as James Lee requested. He used JKD and Bruce Lee's name to make money - that's exploitation, further more he knew very little JKD to begin with this makes him a fraud despite whatever he can teach you.

I tend to agree with Excessive, but at the same time, you don't want to support somebody who weasels people out of their money hiding behind a brand name they had no business using. It's hard to believe somebody doing this wouldn't charge people extra beaucoup bucks because he is a "a Bruce Lee JKD lineage holder" or whatever. If somebody REALLY has the skills, they'll teach and do good, without having to flaunt some credentials they don't have. They don't need 'em. Man, lawyers and doctors get arrested or lose their licenses for that kind of s**t!

My instructor trained under one of Dill's Students. If trained with him for a couple of years and training has been good until lately. The lesson plans that come from Dill have alot of Wing Chun hand trapping in each level. I am now in level 6 under this program after two years.. And my instructor has no idea how to teach the new levels. Very Disappointing

Bruce Lee does deserve great credit for morphing wing chun and boxing into a
coherent fighting method; that in and of itself is a magnificent achievement.
Bruce also deserves credit for emphasizing FIGHTING over arts- fighting itself
is about overcoming an enemy, not about styles, systems, or schools.
Bruce made one big mistake, however. He closed down JKD instead of copyrighting it. He could have used the copyright to control what is taught as jkd (or jun fan or tao of chinese gung-fu) and by whom, so that guys like Dill would have faced the threat of a lawsuit if they were not authorized.
Bruce could have chosen his exact lineage, his exact curriculum, and his exact methods, all protected by copyright. As it stands now, Seattle Bruce was wing chun, LA Bruce was kickboxing, and Oakland Bruce was a transitional figure. I am wing chun (the least of all wing chun ppl. in the world, I add!) but I would only use cwck in wing chun range. I would use muay thai, boxing, wrestling, and jujitsu in other ranges. Cwck is only good in wing chun range, and that is why wc guys lose badly in MMA, Shidokan, etc.
Decide how close your own expression of jkd is to wing chun, then study that line. And as much as I like Bruce, wing chun is wing chun, even if Bruce Lee never existed.

think you need to do homework , BRUCE ,never used kickboxing , he would comment on it , but the footwork in jkd is fencing nold school boxing skills , beats half beats etc with non telegraphic hits ,straight lead, kicks , to the closest target . not , wild swings , n jabs , not clean enough , n where in kickboxing , do you fingerjab eyes , kick to the groin , side kick the knee , snap ankles , n bones ,slap ears with such knock out ,force ,use the straight lead , ,hmm bite , gouge nip mame etc ,will i keep going

Greetings everyone. My name is Rain. I am 36 years old and live in Myrtle Beach SC at this time. I am a Father a Husband and a Son probably like many of you. I just wanted to speak with you about your perception on Gary Dill. I have trained with this man may times but then again I train with many men and have done so since the age of five. I would agree that the quality of the Gary Dill Videos out there is like a good comedy show. I can tell you his techniques while trainig in front of him have always been crisp and refreshing. He knows how to cause the most amount of damage in the least amount of time for sure. Gary Dill is the real deal. He is a good man with lots of martial knowledge to share. He would not even respond to the amount of stupidity I have seen on this forum but I feel I must. I have been a fighter for a long time and not just competition crap thats only good for training. I have had to fight for my life and even the life of my family. I have used techniques instructed to me by Gary Dill in many combat situations. The truth about Gary Dill is he has been in the game longer than most of us and we should respect what he does and move along. Most of you have no clue who you are much less have some divine knowledge of who someone else is or is not based on an old letter. To even start a negative forum about another martial artist without insight and true knowledge only shows you have much to learn. Be kind to your fellow man even when you do not agree with them and you will find martial spirit. Bruce Lee one said "Be like water" I think it is a shame its so hard to achieve this with people like you out there trying to poison the water that mankind hopes to become as pure as.

As well as being a world known authority on JKD, Professor Dill is also a fully certified grandmaster of Bushido Kempo, a pure combat system with techniques from Karate, Ju-Jitsu, Aiki-Jitsu, Gung Fu, and weaponry. He has been inducted into several martial art hall of fames, and is a member of three different grandmaster councils. He has also received official rank recognition from mainland China as an 8th Degree Black Sash in Chinese Wu Shu. The Professor has been active in the martial arts since 1963, and hold black belts in several different combat martial arts.

On a personal note, Professor Dill has spent many years in law enforcement, having served as a federal intelligence agent, state police criminal investigator, and as a chief of police. He was also a firearms instructor and a senior police defensive tactics instructor. He is a Vietnam veteran, and served in both the US Marine Corps and in the US Navy, and was a special agent with Naval Intelligence (NIS). Professor Dill now delegates all of his time to teaching the combat arts.
