  • Vale Tudo-Supplemental training tape review

    Hi,

    Got a couple new tapes from Erik Paulson. I'll do a brief review of the Vale Tudo-Supplemental Training tape now, and his takedown tape when I get a chance...

    ========================================

    VALE TUDO – SUPPLEMENTAL TRAINING
    By Erik Paulson

    This tape deals with training methods for those interested in Vale Tudo/Mixed Martial Arts.
    In addition to training with a partner, Erik makes use of elastic resistance bands, focus mitts, heavy bag, a “Power wheel” (kinda like a ab roller with stirrups for your feet), ab ball, medicine ball, and “Power rope” (weighted jump rope). The majority of the training on this tape is done with the elastic bands or focus mitts. The training falls into two categories…. Calisthenics and technique training. My review will skip the calisthenics portion of the tape. Some of the areas touched upon that deal with technique include…

     Shadow boxing
     Shooting
     Defending the shoot
     Guard passes
     Head control drills
     Focus Mitt drills
     Importance of getting strikes out & back and how to train it

    It took Erik quite a while to return my inquiries I made via e-mail, then one Saturday night my phone rings and it’s Erik calling from Australia to answer my questions.  I thought it was nice that he took time from his schedule to call me from half way around the world. In addition to answering my questions, he said that he has a new tape/s (?) coming out dealing with really aggressive combinations for Vale Tudo and the street. He seemed very excited about it! I went ahead and ordered the two tapes online through his web-site… I received the tapes in about a week. This tape is a little over an hour (longer than advertised). This tape was the first time I personally have seen most of this material covered, so it scores high points from me in that area. The tape footage isn’t professionally shot, but it was well edited. Overall, I give it a 9 on a scale of 10.
