In the beginning of tao of jkd it says jkd was never finished and that no one teaches it. So my question then is how is jkd so widely practiced if there were never any instructors certified by bruce. As I'm told its just an inosanto creation. I don't believe this because there r students of jkd who don't come from the inosanto line. What are the differences between the inosanto jkd and the lee jkd?

It says the "Tao of Jeet Kune Do" (the book) was never completed. Before Lee died he was working on many book projects, one of them being Tao of Jeet Kune Do. However, the book we have with that same title is a collection of some of his personal notes organized by several editors.
No one teaches it? JKD was being taught while Bruce Lee was still alive by Lee himself and James Lee and Dan Inosanto. James Lee and Dan Inosanto both had instructor ranks in Jeet Kune Do given by Bruce Lee to teach his art. When Bruce Lee went to Hong Kong to make movies, he basically handed over the JKD schools to Dan Inosanto (James Lee died in 1972).
The four main "branches" of Lee's art comes from these four men:
Taky Kimura
James Lee (deceased)
Dan Inosanto
Ted Wong (deceased)
Those are the men given instructor ranks by Bruce Lee himself to teach. All others got their instructor ranks under those four men or dont have one.
Does that help?!!?

Yes that helps a little. Thought the book said that there were no jkd instructors or that no one should say they taught jkd or something of that nature. I mean I know there are intructors and quite a few of them very well known in the martial arts community. My intended purpose I. Kind of strayed from.
What I want to know is what r the main differences between what u would learn from inosanto as opposed to kimura or wong, due to his including a lot of FMA.
Thanx

The FMA inclusion into Inosanto JKD has been wildly blown out of proportion in my opinion. I have trained with "Inosanto lineage" instructors and NEVER did we do any stick or blade work in the Jun Fan Gung Fu/Jeet Kune Do class. There were seperate FMA and Silat classes for those arts.
Taky Kimura (I could be wrong) but does not actually hold a Jeet Kune Do instructor certificate rank. He holds a Jun Fan Gung Fu certificate, and still teaches what Lee taught him at the time which was "Seattle Era" stuff, a Wing Chun based system basically but with plenty of other stuff from other arts.
Ted Wong taught things more with how Lee taught him in their personal training time which was at the end of Lee's life. I have never trained with Ted Wong or any of his instructors, so I am not qualified to say what it is like. But from what I have read, it is basically very little Wing Chun but with much emphasis on Western Boxing and Fencing principles.
Dan Inosanto has produced many JF/JKD instructors that are worthy of mention such as Tim Tackett, Chris Kent, Larry Hartsell, Paul Vunak, etc. Tim Tackett runs the "Wednesday night group" which seems to be popular.

True, neither on Jun Fan Gung Fu or JKD certificates does it say they are instructors. However, that doesnt matter as Taky, James, and Dan were clearly teaching under Lee's guidance. If they werent, dont you think he would kick their butt? All three men were personally told to teach by Bruce.
From Wikipedia:
Certified instructors
Bruce Lee personally certified only three instructors. Taky Kimura, James Yimm Lee, and Dan Inosanto. Inosanto holds the 3rd rank (Instructor) directly from Bruce Lee in Jeet Kune Do, Jun Fan Gung Fu, and Bruce Lee's Tao of Chinese Gung Fu. Taky Kimura holds a 5th rank in Jun Fan Gung Fu. James Yimm Lee held a 3rd rank in Jun Fan Gung Fu. Ted Wong holds 2nd rank in Jeet Kune Do certified directly by Bruce Lee and was later promoted to Instructor under Dan Inosanto; feeling that Bruce would have wanted to promote him. Other Jeet Kune Do instructors since Lee's death have been certified directly by Dan Inosanto, some with remaining Bruce Lee signed certificates.
James Yimm Lee, a close friend of Lee, died without certifying additional students apart from Gary Dill who studied Jeet Kune Do under James and received permission via a personal letter from him in 1972 to pass on his learning of JKD to others. Taky Kimura, to date, has certified only one person in Jun Fan Gung Fu: his son Andy Kimura
You can see James Lee's 3rd rank on page 44 of Jeet Kune Do: The Art and Philosophy of Bruce Lee by Dan Inosanto
You can see Ted Wong's rank in this video @ the one minute mark:

JKD variants
To respond to one of the original questions about "no one teaching JKD"...that not entirely false. It does say in the Tao that JKD was Bruce's own expression of himself through the arts therefor how can anyone really teach that exactly. Instead what some of the people mentioned here do (and quite well i feel) is carry on Bruce's art through the concepts and principles he taught. His son, Brandon, put it best in an interview "I am practicing my own interpretation JKD".
I hope that helps.
Keep on blasting,

BL own words: "It ridiculous to attempt to pin down so-and so's type of gung fu as 'Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do'. I call it Jeet Kune Do just because I want to emphasize the notion of deciding at the right moment in order to stop the enemy at the gate. Very often when people talk about JKD, they are very much concerned about its title. Actually, the title is not important. It's only a symbol for the kind of martial arts we study. I stress again, I have not created or invented any kind of martial arts. Jeet Kune Do is derived from what I have learned, plus my evaluation of it. Thus, JKD is not confined by any kind of martial arts. On the contrary, I welcome those who like JKD to study it and improve it".
Please note: young or new JKDer's... He is not saying to lump anything together and wham-bam you have JKD... You need to learn from someone that has went threw the process, that has trained either with BL or BLS's... Even then, you will have to do what BL said above... It's the only way to get "IT"...
