    Killer Instinct

Killer instinct is an important attribute to be sure. If you've watched your Uncle Vu's tapes, you know that you have to be able to turn it on and off. Killer instinct is best switched on in the clinch, and best switched off at other ranges. If you've someone mounted on your chest, all the killer instinct in the world isn't going to do you much good. And it's probably a good idea to leave it switched off if there are any witnesses around. But if you are defending your loved ones...

hey man, i agree with what uve jst said, however, this is what im thinkin...

ur killer instinct is an attribute to fighting sure, there are all kinds of human attributes that is related to fighting. but killer instinct also defines who u r, ur courage, ur fear, ur will, ur will to conquer fear and failure.
an attribute can be boosted or developed, yet killer instincts are what we born with, some ppl are born grumpy, some ppl are born melo, thats why i can say now that possibly everyone who posts on this site has a better disciplined killing instinct than others who dont understand mmas, who dont see the true hidden brutality of fighting.
its a hidden exposure of who we really r, to decease hesitation and a state of mind that can carriy u straight to the hardest challenge and fear, when switched on of course.

if the bag is mounted good and solid you can swing it out and let it strike you like a medicine ball, be prepared though, tighten up and let out a nice "ISSSSHHHHHHHH!!!!!"

I personaly (little JKD, TKD) dont ever kicked a Heavy Bag, but i dont think its a big deal after all, because if i face up with some "Human" bad guy i dunno if i really want to hit him, remember, high kicks, or even stomps to the Body can do critical injuries, and im someone who feels a diffrence between TV or brutal Beat em up games and Real life. A Human is a Human with his own body, feelings, personality... and it can easily be destroyed hitting someone into invalid. I know storys about good Fighters in Boxing, Karate and some others who never forgive themself because they hit some guys invalid while being drunk on the street, they never came back into their old shape, and most of them stopped their career seeing what they are able to do and what they have done.

So why beating, punching, kicking a heavy bag, you will never ever hit a human this hard, its more the fast punches and blocks which we shall use, those can hurt, but not destroy.

A Martial Artist who kills doesen´t understand his MA, doesen´t understand any MA.
MA don´t mean to kill, it means (today) to protect those we love, not to kill those we hate.

i am speaking on my own behalf here when i say this,

i dont actualy care if i hurt somebody when i am defending myself, i am always the one defending against an attacker i never start fights atall, so if someone wants to get it on and they are a threat to me or my loved ones, i will use anything to my advantage aslong as i win and they lose i dont care, maybe a few weeks in IC unit will teach them not to be ana sshole and start trouble,

everyman must at some point come across the need to bust heads and cut throats, and still be the good guy,

              peace.

I don't think I can agree with what you're saying here, no offense or anything just a difference of opinion. Why would you not want to hit a heavy bag? What happens when it finally comes time for you to hit someone. He's in front of you trying to rape your girlfriend or god knows what, time to use that training. But you've never made solid contact with an object, can you hit him without breaking your punch structure? Can you hit him without breaking your hand? Can you even hit him hard enough to make a difference or are you just going to make him mad? It's a matter of self defense, IMO it's a matter of saftey, if you haven't practiced making contact with a solid object you stand a good chance of injuring yourself while attempting to practice your technique.

Training against "air" is great, it teaches you to allow your motions to complete, to draw to center, to carry through a theoretical obstical. However only simulated contact is going to teach you how contact can alter your motions. Only contact is going to harden your natural tools to allow you to deal damage to your opponent..

Evil Should Be Taught A Lesson

I understand your humanitarian point of view; however, it is not hard to distinguish between an assassin and a humanitarian that is defending himself. The point, I believe, we are stressing is the importance of knowing how to defend yourself by all means necessary. There are some very sadistic and ruthless bastards in this world.
Remember, Evil should be taught a Lesson.
By you possessing the know how gives you the ability to adapt to your situation at hand. Just because you know how to kill doesn't mean that you MUST because you get into a fist fight. Many of us know of a way absent MA to kill someone, such as stabbing them or shooting them. However, just because you know how doesnt mean that you should or even will to. The object in any self defense training, I believe, is to minimize your ability to be injured and to get the skrimish over ASAP.
