  • Anyone here ever use JKD in street?just wondering.

I was just wondering if anyone has any good or bad experiences on the street while using JKD.

When you say JKD on the street I trust you mean not using any particular style on the street and using what tool is appropriate for the range you are in. I have used a side kick in a fight (if you wanna call it a fight), this guy ran in on me arms flailing so I delived a quick but powerful side kick to his mid-section and that was that. No point hanging round waiting for him to recover so I made off. It was more of longest weapon to nearest target so in a sense it was JKD. I take Wing Chun though so....

Yes, I used JKD in the street once. Well actually it was in a bar, but you know what I mean. The JKD experience that I have is 2 days of Rapid Assault Tactics (RAT). It's a streamlined version of JKD, and it's very effective. This is the system that Paul Vunak created. Anyway, I was in a bar and a guy came in with an attitude, looking for trouble. He sat next to me and immediately began running his mouth. Then he threatened to punch me in the face. I got up, and told him to cool it, which only made him more confrontational. So I got into a basic stance, with my elbows up at face level (to prepare for a destruction) and dared him to do it. He did, throwing a big right hand punch. I closed my elbows as soon as I saw him move, and his fist bounced off of my elbow. It was amazing, when his fist hit me, it actually kept going for about an inch. It was just a split second from the time that he hit me to the time that it bounced off, but I could literally feel his hand "disintegrate". It was a powerful punch, but the blow felt soft, like his hand went "mushy". As soon as that happened, I zoned out a few feet, because he didn't wince in pain because of the damage to his hand, like I expected him to. If he did, I would have immedately followed with the straight blast, followed by HKE. Instead, I zoned out and kept my elbows up, ready for a left hand shot or attempted clinch, etc. Even though he didn't show any pain, it was obvious that the fight was over, as he just stood there with a look of bewilderment on his face. He was a lot bigger than me, and he didn't realize that he had punched my elbow, he thought he punched me in the face. He couldn't seem to figure out how he could hit me so hard that he broke his hand, but didn't even faze me, lol. Anyway, several people got between us and he was escorted out (he went quietly), as he was psychologically defeated because his best weapon, the big right hand punch was taken away from him and he pretty much lost the will to fight after that.

      Hope this helps

You intercepted his attack. You were doing JKD.

Three weeks ago while calling on a account in the city I was approached by two guys one larger and one about my size they confornted me asking if I knew where a certain street was I told them I was not from the area and could not help them I tried walking further when the shorter one got in front of me and told me if I did not give them my watch I was gonna be one sorry white boy I told them I really did not have time for this and it would be in there best interest to go bother someone else. At this point the larger fellow but both his hands on my shoulders (which now i realize i should have never have let it go that far) i saw him start to cock his left leg back as to knee when when I did a hard ear slap to him followed by a groin slap he folded over in painwhile his buddy nervously tried throwing a punch at me when he hit my elbow he made a face expression like he had just been electriccuted. leaving his punch froze in swing I moved in head butted him blood was everwhere in the mean time a chicago cop ripped down the street and thought I was mugging them after expalining the situation and and finding that both these losers had warrents out on them I was let go I did not press charges on them cause I do not have time for court and all they were both in there early 20's and I think they learned there lesson.

I tell you I have taken martial arts for 15 years and with vanuks stuff he is right the hell with blocks and then counters look at your opponents punchs and kicks as targets and destroy and you cant go wrong!

The only training I have with vanuk is his Video tapes R.A.T. and the street safe series I am seriouly considering the 2 day thing but them again why?

                  Ketsugo Master,
                  Way to go bro!
I too am familiar with Vunak's RAT and Street Safe. While I have never needed to use it, a few of my students over the years have, and they all came out on top! It's good to hear that others find Vunak's approach practical, functional and effective.

                    Rapid Assualt tactics

I was amazed at how easy this stuff works and what can be learned from a video.

I use to go to the dojo 6 days a week for 4 hours a night and did not get these kind of results.

Amen to paul and his training methods!

If it ain't worth being brutal, then it ain't worth the fight. It's like I say to my kids - "Don't fight unless you have to. But, if you have to fight, you have to win".
