Hello, I have just recently registered on your forum. I am posting to inquire information about a martial-arts school that teaches Jeet Kune Do.
I am interested in several martial arts.
Namely: Kendo; JeetKuneDo; and Chinese Kung Fu.
Also, I have had almost two years experience in Tae Kwon Do when I was a young child.
So far unsucessfully, I am seeking a college that would provide training, and teaching of these fine arts(Mainly Kendo and Jeet Kune Do.) May-be to the surprise of those who read this, I wish to be enlightened in not only self defense, and fitness, but the philosophy and life-strategies provided by martial arts. It has came to my attention that there are several Martial Arts colleges that provide a live-in dorm, and that is what I am looking for. Also, I want to earn my black-belt.
Though, I have thought this to be a MUCH longer duration of time, I have been informed that these colleges are three-years long and at the end of this three-year training process, you acheive the black-belt, if you have trained hard enough.
One thing I am worried about, is that I want to have atleast 3 hours of time that I may retire to my room, and work on my computer, which I record many things on, and converse with my family via email, or instant messengers.

If anyone could give me some detailed information on what I am seeking, I would be greatly appreciative.

Also, I am highly interested in Ninjitsu, and I thougt I added it, but my keyboard must have locked up like it sometimes does, cut half of the word out, and I must have thought it was a typo and deleted it.

I would really appreciate it if someone would give me some feedback on this subject.

Talk to a teacher at another scool, he may reccomend you.

Thank you very much! I am very pleased that someone noticed, let-alone replied to my topic. I have checked, but with no sucess as-of-yet. But, I still have faith that I will find a place!

Jeet Kune Do has always interested me, but I heard it doesn't teach weapon-fighting. I have been fascinated by swords since my early childhood, and I have practiced with sticks since I was five. Recently, I have done live-steel battle with my brother, and some friends from the SCA (A nation-wide Renaissance reanactment group)
I am growing more and more interested in Ninjitsu lately, because it trains in many different weapons, and hand-to-hand combat!
When I was a kid, I always wanted to be a ninja, and if I go for 3 years, do well, and recieve my black belt, then I would be most proud of myself. And Ninjitsu is probably one of the most thorough arts, alongside JKD, and Kung Fu.

I would love to take Kendo, but it does not teach hand-to-hand combat, sadly. Ninjitsu looks like what I am wanting to do.

Ive have also heard ninjitsu does alot of weapons training but Ive heard even more about how poor its hand-to-hand is, just wondering is it true?

From what Ive seen yes....But ive only seen some.

As for weapons, you have to decide what you want. Do you want to be proficient in self-defense and actual combat in a small period of time? If so, you should probably study Kali/Escrima.

Or are you more into the spiritual side, and the genius revealed by a system after long years of struggle and obsession? If so, then Kenjutsu (not Kendo) is probably the best way to go. In many schools, Kendo is little more than a sport. Kenjutsu, as I hear it, is more combat oriented.

As for Ninjutsu? Well, I've heard that true, reputable schools are hard to come by. Apparently, the number of actual master ninjas walking around can be counted on your fingers. Don't know if that's true. However, Ninjutsu rightly emphasises armed combat over empty-hand. Who assassinates with a finger when they have a knife? In Ninjutsu, empty hands are similar to Karate weapons skills (an adjunct).

Karate was a cultural development that evolved after the fall of true Budo in Japan. Before then, armed training (specifically with katana and yari) were the order of the day. Bladed weapons fell out of vogue when samurai were outlawed.

Point is, few warriors trained primarily in empty-hand before about 150-200 years ago I think. Could be wrong on the dates.

Well, it turns out that I am yet again, continuing my search for a school.
I am fascinated by Bushido(The way of the samurai) and Ninjitsu, but I also want to learn hand-to-hand combat too. I am pretty good with a lightweight medium-length blade, to the suprise that I taught myself all I know. I am looking for a school with 4-7 hour-a-day training sessions. Like a college.
Preferably something with a dorm, because my funds are really low. I am prepared to train dilligently, and strenueously. And I will only ask for atleast 2 hours somewhere in the day in which I can go and work on my computer, and converse with my family and friends. I would want to keep a journal on my computer with the exercises and skills I learn. I seek spiritual, mental, and physical unity. I am a extremely deep philosophical-minded individual, and I love discussing the philosophy of "Infinite Continuity", Ki/Chi, Life and Death, and anything else that comes to mind. I wish to allocate philosophical meaning and knowledge into my physical martial arts skills.
Here is a brief sample of some of my philosophy... A "demo" if you may:

I see it that there is no enemy, and there is no ally. The only ally is yourself, and the only enemy is yourself. Everyone else that exists are brothers and sisters.
Just like a brother, who does wrong, he suffers punishment, so does the "opponent" who wrongs me. I cannot be beat, unless I let myself be beaten. Once I lose, I know that I have left a cavity open in my soul, so it may be openly perced. I do not wish to engage in combat with hatred, but have tea with my opponent, converse over his life, and then if the conflict is not settled, then engage in honest, honerable combat. If this was the day of chivalry, combat usually would end in death. If so, I would take 4 sips of tea before the battle: One, in a sign of honor to the opponent, one to any soul who may witness the conflict, one to show the entity above us, that I feel sorrow for having to engage, and finally, one to wish the opponent good luck. Then after the opponent lay slain, I would sip 2 sips of tea, and one gulp. One sip to mourn over the opponent's wasted life, one to mourn for the loved ones that the opponent was near, and then gulp the rest down in a sign of celebrating his life. But of course, this is not a time of chivalry and perril. In this day, I would do the same ritual before the combat, and after defeating my opponent, I would drink tea with him to show friendship and a sign of respect.
I have learned not to hold ill feelings against my brothers and sisters, but to love them for their kindness, and their mistakes.

Now a few of my proverbs I have created myself:

There is no evil in this world, there is only misguided feelings.

Drink deeply of the thoughts that are given yet not recieved, discard the thoughts that are thrown yet misunderstood.

Darkness in light, Sorrow in fear, Kindness in love, to heart doth sear, Think not of death as a tragedy, but as a accomplishment of high esteem.

Do not be blinded by hate, for hate only leeds you down the path of imorral behavior and negative actions without thinking.

I assure you that I have created these proverbs myself, and have not stolen them.


I have considerable knowledge, even though I am only eighteen years of age.
To me, there is no technique, there is only the spontaneous flow of action, impromptly distributed by my mid-brain that is shocked into place with an iron will to learn more vast "techniques" but I will not plan on using then indefinitly, only lookin on them as a guide in my sub-conscious.

Oh, I appolgize for double-posting, but I also want to learn to be proficient in fighting flourentine with daggers. (Flourentine means a weapon in each hand.)
I really hope someone will help me find a school like what I descrided in my early paragraphs of the previous message.
