  • JKD is giving me a headache

This is confusing ive been talking with some people on the forum (newbies) ive been looking at some of the school links and each day i get a headache this is why
there are Full Progressive fighting system instructor(under Paul V)
there are Phase instructors under Paul V
there are inosanto Instructor(apprentice i believe)
Inosanto inst offers Savate/thai blend kickboxing , JKD/Kali and grappling people say go with him because he trained with professional grappler like eric paulson

People say go with either Pfs instructors because they are combat oriented. Im not violent but i want to be able to bet the crap out of someone who tries to mug me or a loved one.

    Any opinions.

Jun Fan, the martial expression of JKD, is taught by all those guys. Its more "hybrid" with the Concepts crowd (Inosanto), having been heavily influenced by Kali and Thai Boxing.

Here's the thing. PFS will get you up and running in a matter of days, depending on what program you fallow (I'm thinking of R.A.T.). If you go with the concepts crowd, the time varies, but you will (probably) get a heavier dose of martial variety and be self-defense proficient within six months. Given two years, I think both arts get you roughly the same place. By year three most folks are doing their own thing (to varying degrees) anyway.

You'll kick ass no matter what, as long as your instructors are good and you are dedicated. JKD is street fighting, after all.

I would take the art taught closest to you with the people you groove with the best. One thing I can tell you is that if you hate your instructors and/or the other students, you'll get nowhere fast! Besides, the more martial arts friends you have, the faster and more fun your training will be. Plus, martial artists are generally great folks
