I just recieved Demi Barbito's Killer Instinct video series. I think it is a great set. He seems like a really good instructor. Has anyone trained at his place?
The tapes cover what he calls (self preservation). Everything he teaches is done to make a quick kill. It has rapid assualt tactics and he shows some nice entries. Then they straight blast and do the head buts elbows and knees as well as neck twists, knees to the cocyx bone and chokes and more follow ups. Then there is long, medium and close range stick and knife fighting techniques and training methods. He teaches something called Lastico (I'm not sure on the spelling) which is a medium range knife drill. It is a good drill. On the tape they say he made it up. The second tape is grappling positions and movement and then finishing holds and attacks. He teaches some ground kicking that seems very functional as well. The third tape is a bonus tape and it's 17 minutes of firearms techniques. The whole package is about 2 and a half h hours of material. There are clips of them fighting in training suits in the beginning of the tapes and in the knife sections they use some paint knives.
I never heard of him before I saw the TRS ad and I was sceptical. But they have the money back garranty. I think the tapes are really good though. I have been checking out his website and he seems like a good instructor. He does a lot of seminars and trains cops and stuff. He trained in PFS with Paul Vunak and the Gracie Jiu Jistsu.
I was just wanting to talk to someone who actually trained with him at his dojo.
The grappling arts imply most fights end up on the ground. The striking arts imply all fights start standing up. The clinching arts imply the clinch can stop the striker from striking, and the grappler from taking it to the ground. The weapon arts imply the they can stop the unarmed man. A complete martial art implies any fight can go anywhere...be ready and able to go everywhere.
It is one of the most comprehensive tape seriers I have ever seen. It is also the most 'to the point' tape set I have watcheed. He covers something about everything and I havent seen anything that makes me skeptical. Im going to call and speak with him about training tomorrow. I'm in So Cal and he's in central Cal.

Thanks, Rob. I'm wondering if I should pick it up. What magazine did you see the ad in? Never mind, I'll check the web site-duh.
I'm a little interested in the "lastico" knife drill. Sport Knife Fighting is a great love of mine. With the stick work, lastico is usually long to transitional medium range.
The second tape is about 30 min long and he teaches a few good techniques to do when grappling starts to get out of grappling. Then he teaches basic positions and movement from the cross body position and then he teaches the attacks that can be put in. The ground stuff is kinda basic at first and then gets a little advanced with the attacks and how to dismount safely etc. But that's good for me and my group since we don't know any grappling.
I called Demi and spoke with him. He told me that TRS wanted him to put in a little bit of everything. And Demi said he wanted this tape series to be a foundation set for his training methods so that later videos can be more and more advanced. But, these tapes do get really advanced in the stand up and weapons (knife, stick and improvised). The firearms section is great but it's a 17 min bonus tape. I would have loved more firearms.
Im going to train with Demi in Nov. Me and two friends are going to do a one day training program.
