  • Everyday training!

You ppl obviously dont know me but I've been observing posts here for a while, I've started Jkd about 3 months ago and I take it very seriously, Ive practiced tkd in the past so I have a lil bit of experience.

What I'd like to know are good training drills, good stretches and good exercises to get me to the top! So if its possible I'd like you ppl to inform me on good drills or exercises and how much time or how many I should do per day.

For now, I "try" to do splits, are they important? Also I do cat stretches, twisting sit ups, push ups, high kick raises, side kick raises, jumping jacks , the squat, deep knee bends and more. But like I said I dont know how much or how long I should.

And if ya got good exercises or drills, dont hold back, I need a rough training!

    thanx alot

Oh, and is knifer crazy or somethin ( about Bruce lee post)

Thanx for the advice, you can be sure I wont take it as a joke.
Although I can do sit ups, V ups, push ups, cardio's, body bulding and squats. I have no speed bad, heavy bag nor do I have a wooden dommy (I heard dommies cost about 1000$). Even if I had a wooden dummy I would'nt know which Chi sao's or Pak Sao's to use on it, as matter of fact I never even tried one yet.

Therefor, if you could give me any site with chi sao drills so that I could train with a partner, I'd appreciate it. Also since I dun have any bags and that I can only hit bags at my school, I'd like you to give me other exercises or stretches to replace them.

      Thanx

I hope you took lightning's post as a joke. I doubt he does more than 8 hours of training per day. Even the most elite athlete cannot sustain that level of training for long. For good training suggestions go to straightblastgym.com and read the coaches corner. Also check out the interviews with Matt Thornton. Very eye opening.

          Thanx

thanx for the site, it seems much more realistic then what lightning had in stack for me. Anyways, I did think he was bluffin but I thought that mabey I could do less then to half of that.
          Anyways, thanx again

Chi Sao is something that is very hard to become proficient at without a good instructor (some say impossible). But no matter how good at it you get, remember that trapping hands are a means, not an end. Don't seek traps. Seek to hit. Traps happen to you, they aren't made by you.

I'd rather punch somebody right off than pak sao da them. Boxing tactics usually work better. And simple speed works best of all. Toward the end, Bruce Lee basically dropped trapping hands, because he was fast enough that he didn't need them anymore.

My routine, 2X a week (until recently --work and school, you know):

All kinds of stretching, holding each for five sec. Total of 15 min.

            15 min. warmup on bike

            100 situps

            30 pushups

            30 frog hops

            30 min. of shadowboxing

10 - 20 min. on heavy bag (broken into 2 min. drills)

20 - 40 min. on drills and ABCs

            10 - 20 min. of sparring (with cool-downs)

Cool down, then 20 min of stick/knife work

10 min. of meditation and deep breathing

1 hr of visualization before bed every night

I have chronic asthma that I haven't been able to overcome yet, so this is all I can handle now. I hope to increase my cardio capacity over time. I try not to spend more than four hours in a day on training of any kind; I have other priorities . . .

            Hope this helped
