In a bit of a problem, i have found two jkd gyms where i live and i dont know which one to go to.

The closest gym is on twice a week for an hour at a time. They do jkd but most the people who attend are bouncers (people who work on the doors at clubs). They are all really BIG. They train in knife attacks aswell and my dad met a bloke who goes there when he was on holiday who recommends it. Buts its in a duff area.

Or i could go to another gym at the the other side of the city (i live in a fairly small city). Here they teach jkd/ jan gung fu? I dont know who trains there put they have mats, punch bags and a training dummy. The person who teaches is, is smart because he claims that no one can teach jkd the right way because no one can really know the right way. They have a really good website www.coventryjkdacademy.com it looks good.

    WHICH ONE DO I CHOOSE?

    Well Well

So you found some. Ill give you the advice i got from Burton and roy Harris ( Got to each place during class and watch them and see which you like better.) Im a little biased to the Inosanto lineage i believe the second one which you give the web site for is under Lamar Davis. If the first place have a lot of bouncers probably they see something more functional. inosanto is influenced by the filipino arts which from the info i get improves your empty hand.

I find it highly suspect that the second school's website doesn't list Inosanto as a first generation instructor. I don't even think that any of the listed first gen instructors were even ever certified by Bruce Lee. They should have at least given the certified instructors some credit. I thought that was a bit much.

Either they don't know their history (which I doubt) or someone's got a bone pick with the other first gen instructors.

Besides, I think they missed the entire point of BL's design. They weren't supposed to freeze it in time, dice it up into three different "epochs", and then dole it out to the public in prepackaged bitesized chunks.

      Very wierd, man.

        Hi,

I'm glad you found two schools. I live in central MA and haven't found any yet. I'm no expert as I am just looking to get started but I have had my kid in several MA classes including Karate, Aikido and Shao Lin Kung Fu. I like the advice about watching both classes before joining. Maybe they will let you work out once or twice before joining? I think you really have to like or at least appreciate or respect the instructors, the methods of teaching etc. That might be more important than the style itself. There is a good post on the three styles of JKD so that could be a help also. Good Luck
