  • Who did bruce lee beat?

I have a question about who the guy was that bruce lee beat in 60 seconds, after his back injury?

  • #2
    Wong Jack Man...
But did he really beat him? Not bashing BL, but who do you believe? WJM said he wouldn't use any of his more 'devastating kicks' during the fight, and so he didn't, from what I've read.

Bruce Lee kicked his butt. What kick can't Bruce Lee counter? Devestating kick? lol, is it the no shadow kick? Bruce Lee knows all the kicks in the book. Also, it will take more than a kick to defeat Bruce back then. WMJ is a sore loser.

from what I've heard WJM is a pretty darn skilled and is known for his skills in KF among the CMA community.

What was the reason for WMJ to challenge Bruce Lee? Was it because Bruce was teaching outsiders? If so, Why does WMJ have so many American instructors? I may be confused with someone else but I'm pretty sure it was him who challenged Bruce for that reason. And WMJ is an Internal arts man. What devestating kicks do they have in Internal arts? Bruce can see them coming a mile away. Since Bruce is dead, WMJ can say whatever he wants. Everyone has heard of Bruce, even non martial artists. Not that many people have heard of Wong Man Jack even though he is supposely really good.

an "actor" in the movie "Dragon the Bruce Lee story."

The fight with WJM did take place, but I believe that was before his back injury in the early 60's. Bruce was a WC player back then.

the movie "Dragon." Is a little hollywoodish. Bruce didn't fight a guy in the ring and beat him in 60 seconds.... neither did anyone hurt his back. He hurt it himself lifting weights improperly.

            But that's not exciting.

there was allmost 20 people that saw the fight with wong man jack and bruce lee. they have conflicting stories, mainly about how long it took, but they all share something in common. Bruce chasing Wong with the blast, bruce and wong hitting the ground, bruce pounding wong and making him say i give up in chinese.

Wong Man Jack says it was a tie.

Sure bruce's students could stretch the truth for bruce but the stories all end the same even if some people say the fight lasted 3 minutes and others say it was closer to 30 they are similar enough to seem to be what really happend.

As far as I could find out the only common point in all the different counts of that fight is that Bruce hit Wong Man Jacks back so many times that he was finally out of air. Not even Wong Man Jack disputes that.

It is also a fact that it was about that time Bruce changed his art and finally came to the result: Training is no longer mainly based on sticking (chi sao). (Which is just about the first thing he said to Jesse R. Glover about the changes)

                    Sean,

When he made his decisions about chi sao not being so great was much latter in his life then that point, towards the end of his life. I have trained with a student of jesse glover and they are very heavily into chi sao.

A guy posted on another forum I go to that said he trained under Wong Jack Man, and that it wasn't about teaching westerners martial arts. He said that Man was actually teaching whites, blacks, etc, as the time. It was more about Lee being a young upstart, cocky, etc. Of course, I read this online, so it must be true...

Personally, whether Lee beat down one or one hundred guys doesn't mean squat to me. I've looked around, and taken other arts, I find that JKD is the best for me. I'm not taking it because Lee was a super bad ass or because he made movies.

WJM may have actually challenged BL to a fight of some sorts, but look a little farther and see wht BL was doing before he fought WJM............ talking shit, basically challenging everyone and anyone in his own way.

Im not sure who won, I dont care. BL is dead.

Bruce in the dragon story did fight after the injury but in real life his fight with wong jack happend before that time But Bruce did utilize fighting with protective gear thru out his training and had acouple of small fights during filming but that is not an issue pound for pound bruce was very good martail artist that could pack a strong punch or kick and grapple also and as a youth like many had his share of street fights and also boxed in the ring a few times holywood makes all movies more dramatic then real life
