Getting back to the Kali thing, which was the beginning of this thread, when I trained with Vunak, he said the reason Kali was important was that the stick as en extention your hand moves faster than the hand itself. (obviously) When you can focus on the stick doing drills faster and faster, and then take the stick out of your hand, your opponents seem to "slow down" because you were used to the speed of the sticks. That should make sense to any martial artist. Since JKD is a philosophy, not a martial art, and the phylosophy is use what works for you in a given situation, than using Kali sticks in your training is for each of us to decide if we see an advantage in it or not.

Couldn't help but notice that your location was "in a hole" Maybe think about pulling your head out of the sand and get with the real world.

Wow, did my rational, open-minded approach to self-defense issues hurt that much?

Because I do not buy into the mythology of your chosen psuedo-religious approach to a subject, I am close-minded? Okay, whatever.

              if bruce had lived

well, if bruce had lived he wouldnt be dead. but we can all agree that jkd would not be what it is today. some say its becoming what he feared it would be. but if you want to get on the right path, the truth is in you, and your abilities. its not in a style or systm, but what you can do as an individual (your technical proficiency). studying jkd is not going to make you bruce. bruce never studied jkd he was jkd. how can someone who was never involved with bruce argue over what it is or isnt. its silly. if you want to get an understanding, talk to dan inosanto, or ted wong. not someone who has read his books.
as it is said, i cant teach you, only help you discover that which lies within you as an individual.
              take care, keep at it.

If Bruce Lee lived he would have thought "what the furk are these psycho groupies doing? It's like they want to have sex with me. Why don't they treat me like a real martial artist rather than some rockstar they want to sleep with?". my 2 cents

If Bruce had lived he would have probably been the most fit sixty year old man alive today. And about the gun thing. The rumor was back in '71/'72 that Bruce was carrying a gun and was becoming extremely nervous. You won't find that kind of info nowadays..all gone my friends.

The thing that B.Lee would have hated most IMHO would be all this BS worhshiping done by his groupies.

If Bruce had lived he would be studying everything that is availuble to learn, AND letting go of everything that would not make him a more effecent and effective fighter, yes he would study anything he could learn, but then immediatly discard what didn't work for HIM. one of the problems i see with jkd is that dan inosanto is an individuel with an unquencheble? disire for learning, and then more learning for the sake of learning. as an instructor the more you learn the more options you can teach your students, but as a fighter, your goal is to perfect a small number of techniques to make you a winner. but dan thinks as a student, not as a fighter, as do some of his students. if you name a great fighter you will usealy be able to see one or two things that they have mastered, Joe Fraisers left hook, Ali's jab and footwork, Bill Wallece's left leg kicks, and the list goes on, know everything, but use only what works for you.

Pencode your logic is astounding. There was a "rumor" 30-something years ago. Rumors are just that. I'm not sure what the percentage is, but I'm fairly certain that if you did a study you'd find most rumors are not true or distorted truth. If this weren't the case it would be fact. Right?

And how is it that you are privy to this information but none of his biographers are? That is kind of weird, don't you think? You keep saying information about Bruce just disappears. That is nonsense. People die, their recollection of things changes, certainly this is true. However, media from the 70s still exists. That is interviews with Bruce didn't suddenly go *poof* and disappear. Interviews with people that knew Bruce at the time didn't disappear. All this information is out there. Probably at a place called the library. I'm sure you can find old Black Belts there. Not to mention a variety of biographies on Bruce. Therefore this information exists. Either there are verifiable sources that Bruce carried a gun or there are not. Your recollection of a rumor from 30 years ago does not constitute a fact. I fail to understand why you keep insisting that information about Bruce just fell off the face of the Earth and none of us know what we are talking about because we weren't there. All of us are capable of reading biographies on Bruce and some of us probably have read them. So stop going around acting like you are the keeper of ancient knowledge that no one else is privy to. The stuff is in the library. And if it isn't, well, then just go down to the Inosanto Academy and then risk Dan's wrath and pester him about Bruce. Personally I think the library is a safer bet.

                            Pencode and Robert,

Robert, why is it that when you want to make one point, about fights that Bruce Lee got into, you say that documentaries and biographies are done to make the person look good and that we can't believe what they say, then when you want to make another point, you say go to the library and read the biographies to see what the truth was? A little inconsistent and contradictory I'd say.
Then, when we tell you what Dan Inosanto said about Bruce Lee getting in fights, you say he's a liar. Now you say, "Go ask Dan if you want to find out about Bruce."??
Like I said before about your short term memory, you need to look back at what you wrote previous before you continue to contradict yourself like you have over and over again.
                            You'd make a terrible lawyer.

Actually I talked to Dan back in the seventies when he was running his school in Torrance,CA. Dan is a very nice guy and I don't have any reason to insult him the way you do. I say rumor only because I cannot find the article and quote the person who said it. I do remember that it was during his visit to Xavier High school that the gun issue was discovered. Also, the collection of articles, books, magazines that I collected during that time CANNOT be found. The estates, owners, writers and publishers have either removed the info, discontinued it, or sold the rights to someone who will not release it. I am very lucky to have this stuff. Secondly, biographers require permission to use information owned or controlled by one or more of these entities and many will not release it due to fear of exploitation or law suit by the Bruce Lee estate. As far as libraries go, renovations and such, they will remove older or archived info either to be destroyed or put away. As an experiment, try finding some old black and white mags from the sixties and see what you come up with... you will see what I mean.

Ahhh! Here it is. The man was Father Gregory at the Saint Francis Xavier College. Bruce had gone back to visit and to present the Sports Day awards. He was paranoid and had a bodyguard...Bob Baker. During the ceremony a door slammed shut behind the stage and Bruce leaped to the ground, visibly shaken. Later Bruce showed me a bag that he was carrying and inside was a gun. Apparently, he had received death threats of being shot in public. Who or what Lee was afraid of was unknown but he felt it necessary to carry a gun for protection. May 1974.

I don't make stuff up. I just relate what others have written or said about Bruce. I saw him twice but never got to meet him.
