  • Paul Vunak's IPTP Program

    Hi,

Has anyone here ever attended one of Paul Vunak's IPTP program? How was it like? Does Paul own (work) you? Did you receive the apprentice certification? Has anyone ever been dissatisfied and asked for a refund? Is it worth the money? Sorry for asking too many questions. Thanks

I have attended his IPTP and it was quite good. It was actually the semi-private program, but I was the only one there. It only cost $500 (the one on one program is $2000). It was definetly worth the cost. His RAT program is very simple, you can learn it in one day. It's the same thing as his RAT tape from TRS, but we didn't cover all the energy drills. He also covers plenty of ground fighting, and he is quite good at that as well. I have heard that he is one of the better ground fighters out there (on this forum), but he is very humble about it. He definetly blew me away! He will "work" you a little, to see what level you are at, to tailor the program for you. Because I have a little BJJ experience, he gave me the Phase-one instructorship, although I didn't ask for it. Apparently most people get the Apprentice instructorship, as it is very basic. The only dissatisfaction I have heard of is that he can be somewhat disorganized (hard to get a hold of), but his fighting (and teaching) capacity is awesome. To top it off, he even took me out to lunch and dinner several times.

Overall, it is definetly worth the money.

      Hello Aaron,

Thanks for the reply. Cool, so you basically got the one on one for the semi private rate, right? Was that your first IPTP? How long have you been studying bjj? You must be good to get the phase one certifcation on your first IPTP, if it was your first. Can you please give me a little breakdown of the course for example. 10 hours total. 2 hours stand up. 2 hours kali(weapons) 2 hours grappling. etc. Do you plan on taking another IPTP course sometime soon? also, do you have any information on Paul's group classes in OC? Thanks

        JKD_silat, send me a PM.

I've been to a couple of Paul's IPTPs as well as some of Thom Cruse's, etc. since like 1998 up to the present. I'll do my best to answer any questions you have.

I wrote a couple of the PFS guys off about a decade ago, including Vunak and Cruise. At the time I felt their drug problems were unacceptible and inconsistent with representing the martial arts in any capacity, let alone as a senior instructor. I'm wondering if they ever got cleaned up or got into a treatment program. Anybody know?

I realize there are good reasons for using the PM feature, but I'm left wondering if there is good information you guys are keeping private that could be beneficial to the whole forum. Since this is the whole idea, sharing info.
And no, I'm not just a nosy bastard.

                  Hey Terry,

If you have personal comments/questions regarding Paul Vunak or Tom Cruse, why don't you ask them personally?
Your comments were inappropriate and I am surprised that you are allowed to remain as a mod.

                  Sincerely,

                  Lance

I think it's a good idea to get rid of this thread. Past is past.

Thanks for sharing that. I'm sure he'll be gone within the day for daring to suggest that drug usage might be inappropriate.
