  • Straight Blast and HKE

I'm considering buying two Vunak videos.

    Straight Blast, and

    Heads, Knees and Elbows.

I know he's done loads of others, but I'm really not into trapping, ebergy drills etc.

Can anyone tell me anything about them? Are they any good?

Just want you to know how hard it is for me to restrain myself from making off colour comments on your post.

Borrowed a mates RAT video by Mr.Vunak.
      Covered - destructions/closing/sb/hke.
Pretty good if you've not seen the techniques before.
Did a sort of interactive sparring thing with the tv (tv kicked my arse).Dunno if I'd pay the £20 odd for it though probaly better to put the cash to a private lesson/seminar with a PFS/JKD guy.

      Cheers Jez

          Bri Thai,

I have Straight Blast and Head Butts Knees & Elbows. If I were to choose one, I'd say buy straight blast. It's one of the main things that makes JKD work and one of the things that WILL win a street fight if used at the right time. Bruce used it defferently than the old Wing Chun way. He inflicted pain first by doing destructions and then blasted. It's a great video, although I'm not to hot on Vunak now because I trained with him and he doesn't have the courtesy to return phone calls or deliver what he promises. The videos, if you have martial arts experience already can be very useful. Get a buddy who also has experience, watch them and train it together. Any more questions?

I have a few JKD tapes from Vunak and Tom Cruse, but I highly recommend the Straight Blast tapes. Those are probably my favorite tape set of any MA series. Dog Bros. tapes are a close 2nd.

Thanks for that. To all, except the Spanker.

                Thai Bri,

I know I already responded to you on the videos and I also responded on your Vunak comments. The one reason I spent the money and got the certificate was to show the guys that I now train that I learned the stuff from the source. It adds some crediblity. Having two black belts helps put the icing on the cake. Please read my response to the Vunak thing also.
If you aren't going to train other people for money, there is no need to pay Vu to do his course. You can study his tapes with another martial artist and really get the hang of it training it with each other. I did that, and when I saw Paul, it basically just confirmed that I was doing it all correctly already. Where do you live?

I'm in Manchester in the UK. A little too far to travel to be told "Sorry, I forgot you were coming" by the man himself.

Well then, watch the videos and if you come to L.A. contact me. I'm reliable.

Thanks. I am sure you are.

I wonder if Dan gets a little embarrassed at the "exploits" of one of his bigger named students? I hope not. It isn't his fault.

                        Bri,

I had a phone conversation with Dan over a year ago when I was looking for someone to train JKD with. I asked him about Paul and about someone else in L.A. named Cas Magda. Dan is very ethical and would not bad mouth anyone, and his answer was basically, "They are both very good and it depends exactly what you want to learn." I have a feeling that he does not approve of the way Paul has gotten into hundreds of street fights, many of which he started, just to see how the art worked for real.

I heard nothing but great things about sifu magda. He's a class act.

                            Issanjose,

I've heard the same good things about Cas Magda. I think he is a little more into the art than the street fight like Vunak. Paul said that when thay trained together with Dan Inosanto, that Cas Magda was not into the sparring and the full contact, but that was his opinion. I might go check out his school since it's not too far away from me.

Domstarr, where did you hear that? I know he had some but I never heard of that many.
