I'm thinking $50 dollars an hour would be fair considering what others ask for....and since I'm new to the game as of now.

iam sorry but i train with several eskrima Grandmasters with real experience who charge a heck of a lot less for a lot longer....

The economics of training and living are different in a U.S. city from Quezon City. One of the grandmasters to whom you refer would need to charge $50 per hour to pay for the higher costs of housing, transportation, insurance, education, business rental space, etc. If they fell below $50 they may not be able to justify teaching at all in terms of the opportunity cost.

opportunity cost aside.... most GM's in the philippines dont have a set charge for there training... they accept it out of mercy (very common in the philippines) you also have swindlers like doce pares and other groups who are COMMERCIAL who blatantly charge foreigners a much higher price than local students and dont show them (foreigners) as much as locals.....Funny isnt it...

with all that aside these are GM"S and not some nobody who just got a instructor certificate...why would anybody pay to see a new instructor that much is beyond me

but i GUESS A SUCKERS BORN EVERY MINUTE.....

Thanks everyone for all your help and advice. Things are going well, and I'm now working with a few people. I'm going to try and get involved with some organizations too, and get my name out more. Looks like things are starting.

          And to Esckrimador...
LOL, every "Grandmaster" started out as a nobody with an instructor's liscence. We all have to start somewhere. The "nobodys" of today are the "somebodys" of tomorrow.

But you've got one thing right. There's a sucker born every minute. The unfortunate thing is that sometimes they don't know that they're suckers....

          Take care guys
