  • Bruce and drugs

Last night I was watching a documentary on Bruce Lee.
The narrator said Bruce smoked cannabis.
    Why?
I don't know a lot about drugs apart from that they are bad.
Why would such a athletic fighter take drugs?
Was it because of the back injury?

    Who knows?

Why do NFL stars use crack? A few years back the Dallas Cowboys had some drug charges. Its bad for sport.

      hello,

What was the name of the documentary? Well You have to realize that it was the late 60's, early 70's Also the danger's of drugs weren't known as much as they are today. He probably thought it was another supplament.

he didnt smoke weed, he ingested it. because he didnt like the harmful effects to the lungs, but he still liked the way it made him feel. weed aint bad, if you know how to moderate and control yourself.

A lot of this is speculation, people. Apparently, Bruce ingested cannabis in food as an herbal suppliment for stress relief, etc. He was strongly against taking "drugs" as the word implies, and himself didn't even drink. Apparently this changed somewhat during the last year of his life (makes one wonder about the harsh realities of that kind of stressful lifestyle...sadly he probably wasn't very happy.)
Anyway, herbal suppliments of any kind can be dangerous if misused, and from Bruce's apparent personality (which again is speculation since I didn't know him personally) I don't think there was any kind of "druggie" type motivation in him at all.
He strived to keep himself in top shape at all times. He did however take "drugs" quite often in the form of suppliments, vitamin pills, etc.
So I think the mentality was probably that.

cannabis is not as bad as alcohol and that is legal right ? how many ppl do you know that get into head on collisions because of them smoking some and being too messed up to drive ? i do smoke occassionally, but i am giving my honest opinion without trying to be biased. anything in moderation is ok, as long as you can control it and not turn into a freak.
people who drink alcohol are not all bad are they ? same with this.. you have your beer drinkers and you have your wine drinkers... but they both still drink alcohol, regardless of their class. yet alcohol is still tolerated in our society even when it causes more damage and accidents than good. the key is moderation, whether it be cannabis, alcohol or anything. you dont even know what kind of stress i go through in my life and i find that cannabis relieves my stress quickly and easily. so to you it may be bad, to me its good.. why are you so biased? are you a reformed pothead or something ?

i dont do hard drugs, just smoke occassionally,i dont drink, i still exercise and keep fit, and if you can moderate yourself, hey why not. now, the medicinal properties have even been recognized by doctors everywhere . im down with my boy bruce... smoke the sess to ease the stress .. heh

I'd like to clear up this matter.

#1: There is no proof that Bruce Lee EVER smoked Cannabis or even ingested it until the autopsy after his death which showed Cannabis had been ingested at about the time of death. almost leading one to think that he had been poisoned.

#2: Almost everyone in Hong Kong was on drugs, but it was limited to Opium. If Bruce had been found with Opium it would have been ignored.

#3: The fact that Cannabis had been ingested only means that he may have tried it or that he was chewing the root due to stress.

#4: It burns when I pee and I don't know why

I thought Steve McQueen knew that bruce was messing around with weed.

BTW, a lot of very good BJJ guys like their weed. But some people can function just fine with it.

I just dont understand the average viewpoint on drugs. Man I have been sitting here for five minutes thinking of how to start a long essay on this but I cant be bothered writing it and I'm sure you guys can't be bothered reading it so.......

                        everything in moderation.

oh and btw you would have to have ALOT of cannabis to be poisoned, I have seen one documented case of cannabis poisoning.

                          Re:

Bruce MAY have ingested cannabis, but it was then only known for its RELAXING effects, which bruce may have liked because he was into relaxation.
cannabis DOES have downsides, including changed mind frame, lack of caring, unable to process a lot of mental commands, etc.

let's not turn this thread into wether or not cannabis is dangerous or not...my personal experience is that cannabis has no downsides if used moderatly, but like EVERYTHING ELSE in this world, too much is bad....

I've never heard about bruce doing it though, this is all new to me...it's possible...give us a name of that documentary...
