"Strict form, rules and patterns have inherent weaknesses"
"Fluidity was the ideal--to keep moving.Water, lee would always say, is the toughest thing on earth. It is virutually indestructable; it is soft, yet it can tear rocks apart. Move like water."
"Acept what is useful. Reject what is useless"
"Remember, too, that Jeet Kune Do is merely a term, a label to be used as a boat to get one across; once across, it is to be discarded and not carried on one's back."
"Please do not take the finger to be the moon or fix your gaze so intently on the finger as to miss all the beautiful sights of heaven. After all, the usefulness of the finger is in pointing away from itself to the light which illumines finger and all. ---"

During his run there was another lesser know, though equally talented martial artist, Shihan Gordon Doversola (true Okinawa Te). Shihan Doversola was also active in movie choreography for such movies as The Manchurian Candidate. Bruce and Doversola did not particularly care for he eachother and they did have something between a fight and a sparring session. Jim Kelly and Joe Lewis told this story saying that Bruce started out winning with his incredible speed. Doversola admitted that he had never seen anyone as fast as Bruce, but that his blows didn't stop Doversola out right. On Bruce's third attack Shihan Doversola caught him and laid him down. Both masters were able to walk away...neither being the clear victor. It just goes to show that as great as Bruce was, there were and are others in his league.

Go ahead, hit a tree. That is totally retarded and unnecessary. Why do you need to hit a tree when a punching bag and focus mits will do just fine? If you want arthritic hands when you're 40, go for it. How exactly does hitting trees acheive inner harmony or happiness? It does achieve breaking your hands very well. Oh wow, you'll get some nifty big ass callouses on your knuckles that look like tumors. Chicks will really dig that. They'll also dig when you tell them how you like to beat up bags of jeans and trees. That will do wonders for your social life.

Losers
A man who was able to move like Lee after a 6 months serious back injury (stuck in weelchair)+ philosophe + still ultra famous 30 years after his death is one of his kind. (I am not developing here, it is not necessary I hope)
You people are only posting on the Internet your opinions about a great man that actually achieved something. Who are you to ask for proofs of anything.
Lee had many challenges when he was in HK, but got fed up with it when he came back in US. I think street fights (as it happened during Enter the Dragon film set for instance) are more impressive than a sport performance : Boxing, or MMA, ..)
I don t care if Lee never fought the world heavyweight Boxing Champ, Boxing is a sport, there is a referee, rounds, gloves, limitations, weight category etc .. Where does Lee s ability to strike in the Groin (one of his JKD technicks) fits in this context ?
Regarding those poor arguments about the names of who Lee fought ... Did you ever had a street fight ? Did you ask the guy's name ?
All this happened before Lee was famous so who the hell would have inquiered the name of those guys ?
Anyway, even if Lee wasn t the street fighter you re all arguing about, noone is capable of moving like he used to do 30 years ago. He was a precursor when jogging wasn t even popular it was part of his routine, while martial art was about ... dancing and simulating a strike !
Noone here is half the man Lee was 30 years ago: FACT. Go back to your Gym, and try to innovate a new style if you can.
