Actually no one is waiting to hear anything from me except you. And as you can tell by most of the responses here, no one really cares one way or another who or if Bruce Lee fought anyone in the street. Its a totally inane discussion.

Fine, you're right. Bruce fought in the street because so and so told so and so who told so and so who told so and so who told so and so who told you. Yay! Domstarr wins! Go Domstarr! You rule! You know everything!

The fact is, as everyone will acknowledge, Bruce did get in a lot of fights in his youth. He did draw the attention of police because he was involved in so many fights. Just like I said. This is why he came back to the United States to go to college--his parents were, rightfully, worried he'd wind up in jail or dead as that was the route he was going. There is scant evidence that Bruce ever fought for real "on the streets" once returning to the US. That isn't the sort of thing that philosophy students do. This was before Fight Club, so it wouldn't exactly have been cool for Bruce to show up to his discussion sections bruised up. As a Chinese person trying to break into film in a racist era it also would not have done Bruce any good to get into fights on the street. Quite frankly I very much doubt he'd have gotten hired if he had a reputation for finding trouble (or for trouble fighting him). So far as I am aware there is claim, repeated by many sources, that Bruce was challenged ONCE at his school. There are reports that he MAY have whooped on Chuck Norris while sparing. Oh, but I forgot, Domstarr is always right. I'm just a wannabe who doesn't know what he's talking about.

Why do people believe that the Gracie's got in hundreds of street fights? Who do you know witnessed them? Can you tell me the names of the people they got in the fights with? Can you tell me how many times they've been in jail? Can you tell me how many times they've been in the hospital? It's pretty much common knowledge that they set up the UFC for grapplers, having it on soft mats with lots of moves that are barred in supposedly no holds barred competition, like breaking knees, kicks to the groin, taking out eyes, pulling out throats, things that would give more of an advantage to a dozen other martial arts that would have beat them, so they took them out so they could win. There is no more proof that the Gracies really got in lot's of street fights except for their own claims, then there is about Bruce Lee

Rickson has proven his prowess in front of millions. Bruce supposedly proved it in front of a select few students........ It isn't difficult to assess the probablilities about who has the most real credibility as a fighter.

This is my favourite quote from the thread - "all i have to say is... bruce lee was a featherwieght quicker on his feet than anyone or possibly anything that ever existed."

Pulease! Lets stop this ridiculous hero worship! It is bleedin' sad and stupid.

And no. If someone makes a point the onus is not on others to prove it is not so. The onus is on the guy who made the point to prove the point. AND IF YOU THINK PROOF COMES IN THE FORM OF tv DOCUMENTARIES, THEN YOU NEED YOUR HEAD SEEING TOO!
My point was that at least he had a referance to make his comment from when you had.

I didn't say anything about any fights except the one that I was told by my Sigung who was Bruces student at that time. Which is more proof than just saying bullshit whether second hand or not, its from someone I know and someone who does know. Which is more than you know! Or maybe you need your head checked.

Hey this stuff is pretty funny because no matter what, nothing can be proved. No hard feelings on my side. Any way maybe we'll have real conversations in the future!

Punching trees is just a training method to strengthen body and the ability to take pain. Ohh and if i want to hit trees and it makes me happy is'nt that living the way i please. hitting trees takes care of the im gonna do what i please, i meditate to calm the soul and bring happiness. im sorry you don't see the ways of my training. But if i wanna be the best i have to take the most extreme route to get there, be it the road with brush, snakes and thorns...

Hey, they're your hands. Do whatever you want to them. But they're going to be ugly and crippled if you do it for very long. But hey, there are people who are into extreme body mods and amputating their own limbs and crap like that. If beating your hands into a crippled mass gets you off, cool.

                  My Sosai

Mas Oyama was my Sosai. I became first Dan after 8 years training. About the punching of trees. Yeah, he was a little bit crazy but then again, he could break rocks in front of us. I remember one day he asked me to smash my hand with a hammer to break the bones and make them stronger, only I refused because I didn't want deformed hands like his. I have a lot of good memories with my Sosai, Mostly because I never saw him too often. He was always busy going back and forth from New York to Japan taking care of personal business. My favorite memory of him was when he walked in one day and said, "Ok, we all fight now". Meaning, each one of us had to face him one on one. The entire class. I was scared out of my wits, number one, because I already knew he had over two hundred fights...from wrestlers on down...and broke many a rib, and number two, because we sparred without equiptment..full contact. He bruised my left rib with a punch(thank God he was holding back) and I just folded over, he knocked a few guys out, dislocated another guys shoulder, and bruised a few thighs along the way to kicking all fifty of our asses one by one.

My worst memory is when one day, he was standing next to me, both of us facing the same direction. Then he said , "attack me, the way we stand now". I said "ok". I went for it and all I saw was his left heel come upward and backward into my balls. OOOOOOOOUUUUUUUCH!!!! I keeled over to the ground and he stood me up and said "bounce, bounce, you jump, pain go away...now you learn something new, yes?". "Yeah" I squeezed out.

He passed in 1994 and I didn't know it. I move out to California after the war and never went back. I did a search and found a website dedicated to Kyokushin Karate.http://www.kyokushinmail.com Just in case you are interested.

Mas Oyama sensei was a truely great fighter. Real Skill, Real Power, the real deal - a legend among Karateka and MAists in general!

He also trained in Hsing I called Tai ki ken in japan, and Daito Ryu JuJutsu i think - both of which i train in (not tai ki ken but hsing i)

Thanks for the great memories of him.

The question was who did Bruce Lee actually fight? In real life or in competition. And the answer is no one.

Right, Dan Inosanto, Paul Vunak, James Coburn, Bernie Weintraub, (producer/director of Enter the Dragon) Kareem, they're all liars.
Dan Inosanto said, quote "Whenever I saw Bruce get into a real serious fight, he used the straight blast." Dan is one of the most honest, respected men in the fight business today. Tell him he's a liar' Do use the same logic as that other idiot who was arguing this point, that your proof that Bruce Lee never got in real fights is that he didn't die? Give it a rest. Let's end this thread before ignorance really shows through.

IIRC, ETD was filmed in Hong Kong not in the US or Europe, ergo the police being called and hauling someone off to jail isn't exactly a certainty.

The ONE fight acknowledge by both participants and a few other observers was Jack/Lee.

BTW, other than fellow insomniacs, WHO CARES?

                                Domstarr,
The question is not weather Lee could beat the crap out of some random punk on the street. The question is what great martial artist did Lee defeat in real life or in a match.
