If Bruce Lee had not been such a big movie star he would not have acheived anything like the influence he has in Martial Arts. Most of us would read his name in the small print, along with the others.

However, prior to Bruce Lee most martial artists wouldn't have considered Boxing or Wrestling to be Martial Arts. Still today many people are confused by their classification as such.

In my research I found no one in the US prior to Bruce Lee incorprating western boxing or wrestling into their martial arts instruction. Certainly no one in kung fu, judo or karate was doing this prior to Lee.

Fairbairn may be the only exception to this. And in that case you are right. But, I don't recall Fairbairn having ever taught civilians. At least not in any organized class outside of the military.
So much for research skills? Never found KAJUKEMBO (Karate/Judo/Kempo/Boxing) I can recall reading about Kimura taking up boxing to compliment his Judo and a few Silat/kuntao guys that added some Judo and boxing too long before BL came onto the scene... Donn Draeger introduced some Judo techniques to more than one Pendakar of Pentjak Silat. back when BL was still beating up kids in school...

honestly, Lee's philosophy on martial arts, as a whole, makes the most sense for practitioners of any form of fighting. William Cheung has the Guiness World Record of over 8 punches per second; Lee is known for the base form he uses because of Cheung. IMO Lee is worthy of praise because of his roots... he may have been the strongest and fastest fighter ever within his class, but there will eventually be another that can best him, if there isn't someone out there already. I certainly wouldn't want to cross the man in his prime.

      • lol.... I only read up to page 6, and let me tell you...

THIS THREAD WENT TO SHIT SO LONG AGO!!!!

but now for my 2 cents,

Bruce was not a god, bruce was a great fighter, a great pioneer, he has done so much for the martial arts and breaking tradition.
He trained hard, he obsessed over it, he was always learning more and looking for more to learn, he has brought so much to the martial arts

and no matter what you may so

        the man....

        DESERVES RESPECT

        so give some...
