oh looks like I didn't relate my post well.

Knocking stars or whatever would be comparable to using a hit stick.

Rolling pin would just damage the nerves but do little for improving bone density.

I'd rather have nerves and a stong bone then no nerves and a weak bone.

speaking of which, i got hit the other day in the leg and now when i step down or move my foot in certain ways my big toe and index toe tingle. Odd fricken sensation when you are sparring.

      dep[ends how often u train

the first few mths i trained it was hell. but we used jit da jao and external qi gong to toughen up ourselves up, my mates used to freak when they saw the bruises i used to carry, but i found after a while that i didnt bruise any more, but i think how often u train makes a big difference too i was part of the fulltime squad at my kwoon and we trained 2-3 classes a day 6 days a week so u get used to it. I still think that it should be the persons who is on the receiving end who has the choice of how hard. Its guys like the one u are talking about who cause alot of the injuries in this situation, its good that ur instructor stepped in cos this guy will hurt someone seriously one day, especially when u start gettin serious about chi sau and chi gerk, as for nocking stars (first time ive heard that term) it is supposed to be a gradual thing, if u stick with it in conjunction with good qi gong and use of chinese medicine they will eventually become pretty much indestructible. The way i used to handle it was go hard on my shins and forarms then wear pads when the bruising was too much, also at our kwoon we had an unwritten agreement that if u wanted to train hard u find a like minded partner, u dont impress anyone by goin hard on someone if they arent as into it as u, it just makes u look like a fool, also we senior students had a habit of bringing guys who get into the whole ego thing down a peg or three

don t worry mate one day this goose will cop a hit that makes him change his attitude

        oh yeah

iron rings rattan cane will help too, but the best thing for conditioning ive found is to live on the dummy, if u aint got one at home get one, and if u cant get one spend as much time as u can on the one at ur school, u will be amazed at how quickly all aspects of ur style will improve when u start using ur dummy. Try and talk a senior student into teaching u a few basic drills if ur sifu aint into it, just be sure that u r doin it correctly as it is easy to teach urself bad habits on the dummy if u aint careful, but the good thing is that once u have a good grounding u can get as creative as u like, u should also suggest this to the guy ur talkin bout, that is the whole point of the wooden man, u can go as hard as u like on him and nobody but urself can get hurt

Heavy bag is good for other kinds of conditioning but it dont have the same benefits as a dummy and other traditional forms of hard qi gong
