  • TKD vs Wing Chun

I practice TKD. I consider myself a competent practicioner and I consider TKD to be a very effective MA, just as effective as any other when used right.

If I ever had to fight a Wing Chun person, what would I need to do? What do they do differently than TKD people?

keep away from their hands and keep them on the outside. they have fast hands and will probobly try to get up real close. ur best bet is probobly using your kicks to keep them at distance.

He's right, its like sparring against a boxer or in some situations a karate-ka, keep your distance and do let him start dictating the fight through the median line punching thingie. I recommend a high chamber stance used quite heavily.

        On Fancy Kicks

When I used to practice WC (strictly), most of the TKD fighters I've sparred with tend to come at me with an arsenal of either round houses, cresents, and hook kick. The way I was taught to deal with attacks like those were to rush in and jam the attack with something like a jum sau or gan sau, then work my inside punching/trapping game. For me (or someone like me) make sure to properly setup your big attacks with quick stop kicks, front kicks, shin kicks, and side kicks to keep him/her off balance.
