My oh my....my legs are killing me...

We had tournament today...point sparring, forms and freestyles...(and then judging - Scorekeeping in my case and teardown)

I never seem to get warmed up at testing or tournament like at class...I haven't gotten injured yet...to my surprise...

Do any of you have an idea how to warm up without the benefit of a structured class?

I like to warm up by jumping rope before I stretch. I usually jump rope for 4 sets of three minutes each with a 30 second rest in between each set, but you'll have to find the right amount for your needs. Basically you want to make sure that at the least you have a decent sweat going, that way you'll be warmed up enough to stretch safely.

(three minutes...I'll be dead....put on list to work on)

OK, all kidding aside...tournament set up, you warm up and stretch, you sit down and wait...you do forms, and wait, you sparr...you wait...

You know...and depending on the size, you may not have the room to do all you are used to do...

      hmmm...

Well, I'm sure you've always got enough room to stretch, and if there isn't enough room to swing a jump rope you could always run in place- if you do this try to get your knees as high as you can. Keep in mind I'm a boxer and while I've done a number of other things over the years I've never studied TKD. I certainly know how to warm up and stretch out regardless of what sport or art it is but you may have specific things that you want to work on for TKD that I have no experience with. I know tournaments (of all sorts) frequently have long waits in between short periods of intense activety. That probably means that you will have to warm up more than once if you're participating in more than one event.
