You guys are gonna laugh... anything that comes out of a Rocky Movie gets my blood boiling.

St. Elmo's fire is another one too.

What can I say... I'm from the 80's.

The more relaxed I was, the less my nerves got to me, so I shifted from the amped up, hard-core stuff to relaxing tunes like Vivaldi's four seasons (a long series of tunes, by the way) and Mozart's Magic Flute. They let me release the tension and anxiety and perform like I was still at the gym without all the pressures of an event.

People disagree, but it worked well for me and I have a belt and several medals to show for it...
Even more relaxing are works by Debussy.

There are some classical works that are equally good at pumping up, take Carmin Burana by Orf (everyone knows this one from the movies) or even better The Planets: Mars by Holst.

I actually work out to O Fortuna sometimes (it's on two of my running CDs, as is Flight of the Valkyrie) because it pumps me up. I like Mozart because I enjoy the way he used nearly every beat of a rhythm and how he layered his compositions with so much depth. To me, he was one of the best when it came to realizing that in great music, not everyone has to be doing the same thing. In a sense, it's how he made complexity sound so easy that impresses me. Like an athlete who can make a tough move look simple - Michael Jordan in his prime effortlessly shaking off defenders and dropping a long range jumper without even trying. It inspires me to try and make what I'm doing look easy to everyone watching, even when I'm dying inside.

You don't know hom much this makes me smile! I don't usually get to meet people who appreciate the popstars of the past I did not expect it here!

Don't you agree about Wagner, though?

Wagner can be intense, but is to stern for my taste...(the sailor's choir out of *the Flying Dutchman* is good though...)

in the end all I can say is ahh, BACH

It's been a while since I've listened to him, but his death has reminded me just how awesome James Brown really was/is

Yea now that you mention it--"The Big Payback" was an alltime favorite rumble song. Over 7 minutes long.
