I study military style tae kwon do, and i just want to meet someone who studies it also, so we can discuss issues we find important to our art.

What is military style TKD and what does it include?

The system of TKD that I study was created out of Military TKD training. It now has grown beyond the original TKD taught to military.

But always glad to talk about interesting things.

yeah, what is Military TKD? Is it more ground based than traditional TKD? I studied for about 6 years before I quit and I'm interested in what you have to say about it.

I was in the military and have been through the hand to hand combat course and we did learn alot of different things from various arts although most of the time they don't tell you which art it comes from. They had a fair bit of kicking but did not focus on kicks to the head alot like TKD does.

For the curious, the army posts its combatives manual online at:

The pdf version can be download from the link "Download
Instructions" at the top of their page.

As to whether it is more efficient to study alone or in a school, it really depends on the school. However regardless of whether you're training alone or in a school, if you are not getting regular practice against other styles and methods outside of your school, you're missing out on a great training opportunity.

Yeah what the hell is Military TKD? Do you practice using your weapons as clubs and how to switch from M4 to the M9 real fast to engage when the M4 jams or runs out of ammo? If you are not engaged in this and other type of military weapons and CQB type of training then how can you call it military TKD or combatives for that matter. If you are training like this why as a civilian would you need to now this stuff? Do you carry an M4 in car at all times? C'mon people please.

I think TKD is a great sport I do not think it's a great self-defense MA. Let’s use some common sense.

And another thing, which military uses this? I spent 8 years in the U.S. military and I did get a few seminars in SD but never military TKD never heard of it.

They dont' teach you a MA in the Marines, you get like a a couple 2-3 hours a day for about a week of training. Thats bullshit! You really don't learn much. But it's fun.
