I was in the military and have been through the hand to hand combat course and we did learn alot of different things from various arts although most of the time they don't tell you which art it comes from. They had a fair bit of kicking but did not focus on kicks to the head alot like TKD does.

For the curious, the army posts its combatives manual online at:
The pdf version can be download from the link "Download
Instructions" at the top of their page.
As to whether it is more efficient to study alone or in a school, it really depends on the school. However regardless of whether you're training alone or in a school, if you are not getting regular practice against other styles and methods outside of your school, you're missing out on a great training opportunity.Last edited by hoplite; 08-06-2003, 10:39 AM.

The law of tyranny:
1. Any power that can be abused will be abused
2. Abuse always expands to fill the limits of resistance to it.
3. If people don't resist the abuses of others, they will have no one to resist the abuses of themselves, and tyranny will prevail.

I think TKD is a great sport I do not think it's a great self-defense MA. Let’s use some common sense.
And another thing, which military uses this? I spent 8 years in the U.S. military and I did get a few seminars in SD but never military TKD never heard of it.
