  • What training drills do you do at your school

What types of drills do you use in your classes.

    For instance,

we use a out stretched rope to do bob and weave drills for both punches and kicks.

We also have one person hold a kick shield and attack and retreat while a person goes all out on the shield.

What other drills have you got.

I remember a drill in Kickboxing that we used to do that was really good for stop kicks(of the side or front kick variety). Have one person in the middle of two others with pads. One person rushes in and the person simply stops them with a stop kick, then right after that the person from the other side attacks and so on. This is dependent on the intensity of the students though(as always). If they just kind of walk towards each other and flip out the kicks without any focus then it doesn't work. If they use good intensity then it will be a great drill.

we have quite a few different drills that we do to focus on different things.

1.we kick the shields one on one, two and three and four on one
2.we do reactions drills where you are faced from anywhere from one to four attackers and depending on the scenario, they may be throwing punches or kicks or combinations and you defend against them and then attack or attack first so no defense is needed.
      3. we pick a technique and do it against three people making it work against different opponents throwing different weapons.
      4. we run a gauntlet, which is two lines of students holding a variety of pads and one person walking through the middle either hitting and or kicking and or kneeing and or throwing their opponents
      5. we do techniques on each other the most though. the instructor will introduce a technique and then we'll do it on each other.
      6. we do blocking drills where we are only on defense and the opponent throws the weapons, this is when we are in sparring training mostly.
      7. evasive drills where we get out of the way of whatever is coming in at us
      8. bag drills where we take turns hitting and kicking the bags one at a time and help each other out with constructive critisism.
      9. punching and elbow drills as well as open handed strikes to different target heights to simulate the attacker coming from different places

In my class we will have five minute sessions where you just go all out on a powerline screaming and yelling beating the hell out of it. By the time you are done you can hardly breath. But it is a good adrenaline exercise

In my TKD school we do drills involving power kicking techniques and speed.
          1. In one of our drills we have somebody hold a shield and we follow them down the floor kicking the shield as hard as we can for 2 minutes.
          2. another drill that i do is a drill in which my instructor takes a karate blocker ( foamy stuff on a stick) and trys to hit you to the head or to the legs and u have to dodge them by ducking or jumping and also u have to punch and do kicks when he says to on a piece of x-ray paper it is used for hand-eye coordination and speed.
