In theSchool that I originaly trained TKD we sparred every night and took our beatings as we should I have not found another school that matched it.
Good, but most sparring that I've seen done in TKD schools favors TKD techniques and TKDs preferred middle to outer ranges. Most have a zero inside game. I see less and less of the sweeps and throws that used to be a staple of the TKD of my yoot.
In order to experience true peace you must first overcome true hardship.
remember the wind, for it flows through all of us.
I like smeg-ma chips.
for all those who i offend............i don't give a shit
BrokenElbow I never said that the TKD was all incompassing with takedowns and clench work etc etc..
However you will find that some TKD schools crosstrain.
I would love to find a school that did all that stuff and I have trained in some JKD where we trained in all areas however the sparring sessions were few and far between.
I have heard alot about these cross-training TKD school and never beleived it but had the priveledge recently to visit one. The class trained in TKD, Judo, and JJ. The TKD was your regular garden variety TKD school but the Judo and JJ classes were pretty good. If I had to go to a TKD school I would go to something like that where I could cross train in something like Judo, JJ, MT, or BJJ.
I have been a WTF TKD student for 16-17 months now and am just beginning to look at cross-training possibilities.....in fact I went to a BJJ lesson yesterday (quite cheap £7 for an hour and a half).
The reason being is that my TKD club (at least the main instructor) has a mainly kick orientated style of training so from my own opinion is that an art like BJJ balances into this quite nicely.
Originally posted by Frustrated I am sick of people pissing on TKD!!! Yes ti might not be the most efective martial art system> But how many times do you have to fight a trained individual on the street. Most attaackers are not well rounded martial artist. TKD for those who love it do it because iot is fun. In the past 13 years I have trained is several different styles. 10 years it was in TKD 3 in JKD 2 in jujitsu, with 5 dfferent schools and the only place where I could spar every night was a tkd school and sparrining is the most fun of all. I will say that the most helpless situation that I have found myself in was rolling with some jujitsu guys. But even at the Jujitsu schools I have trained at we couldn't roll every night. The TKD schools had the most flexible schedules for those of us that have to work and are not school owners that have the luxery of being able to train in multiple arts. I am sick of seeing svhools that offer incredible martial arts systems like KALI ior JKD or Brazilian but only offer it 2 times a week for 99 dollars a month
