Well it takes a little more than talent. I could become the world Muay Thai champion and still get slaughtered at K1.... I'm simply too small, 160 lbs VS 250 to 350 pounds is not going to work.

Durr.... sorry I missed that... somehow. I'm just pissed that they don't have that format for lighter weights and payouts that good for lighter weights.

the money still sucks when you think that boxers are making millions off each fight and they don't have to train as hard as these guys with their lower bodies. no offense meant to boxers they do train hard but guys going to k1 should be getting more money.

I have always practiced axe kick with a hard down stroke, is it possible (I don't mean that, I mean feasible) to have a hard up stroke too? or is that just a front kick with your heel?

The axe kick is one of my fastest kicks too. I use it when my opponent starts pressing in. It's fast and comes blind side, so it's rarely seen. Front leg axe kick is going to be much quicker and harder to read than a rear leg. Bring it like a crescent, except stop it midway and drive it down hard.

IMHO the ax kick is a home run kick that can be subsituted with more effective kicks....

How's that? The axe kick is effective because it is hard to see and read and is thereby not defended as well as say, a roundhouse. That is the only reason I use that kick, it lands more than roundhouse.

well let's agree to disagree. But the simple fact is that in Mixed sticking matches not many people use or land the ax kick.

Actually those that can do use it to good effect. Not alot of people can use this technique effectively, they simply don't put in the years of practice needed to get that skill level. The fights I have seen where someone does use it they use it very well, with lightning speed and accuracy and power. This is similar to spinning kicks, not many people use them in full contact venues but when someone does it's because they are extremely proficient with them and they work like a charm.

I guess my problem is that people that simply just can't do these techniques well just discount them as useless when in fact it's just a matter of practice, if you train it, it will work for you. If you don't train it, of course it's a useless technique.

As I said before other than Andy Hug in K-1, i have not seen any ax kicks hit the jackpot in the major "leagues" such as KOTC, UFC, PRIDE and of course K-1. I would need to see multiple people using the ax kick in a high level kickboxing or MMA league to be convinced.

No I've never seen axe kick in MMA matches either but I thought we were talking about mixed striking matches? MMA is not a striking match. BUT I have seen it in K1 more than once and I've seen it televised in Muay Thai matches and other kickboxing type fights. Didn't realise we were talking about a whole other ball game ie. MMA
