  • Martial arts Regulations?!???

I wanted to get some honest, intelligent, and serious comments on the prospect of a governing body or goverment regulation of martial arts credentials.

I will list the following forum for some reference material, I just picked the first one I saw on the search I ran.

Regulations of the Martial Arts would be a bad idea.
Anyone who is creative and comes up with something new will not be able to teach or open a Martial Arts school.
For example Bruce Lee was not "certified", therefore under regulations he would not be allowed to teach or open a school.
    Can you imagine that?
It is up to the public to determine who is worthy and who isn't to teach them Martial Arts. Too many creative people would be stifled and traditional styles will be the only acceptable for certification.
Do we really want that? I for one don't!

also who would be in charge of the regulatory system?
would it be governmental as in the country you live in?
would it be by martial artists and which styles would they belong to?
would that be an issue if your style is contrary to theirs?
if it were regulated i am sure some things wouldn't be able to be taught as they are now because of injuries to attackers or combatants?
no one wants to see a bad guy get what he deserves (well in the u.s this is sometimes true).

My fear would be the regulation of techniques. Can yuou imagine if someone where to view chokes and locks as "too dangerous" but you may teach strikes and kicks. Knee and elbow strikes should only be taught after BB.

It would make aerobic kickboxing and tae bo seem like the best for self defence
