  • The clinch is a good technique for controlling the match but you have to becareful of a stalling call. Ankle pics, head snaps to a shot, and short singles can easily be had from the clinch.

OK if I am understanding this correctly yesbut after you turn the guy sitthrough and that will stack him.

Locking up is fine and you can do alot from there but you won't win a match the key is always movement. Lock up to set up. Like I said before grab the neck your hand (really turning the skin like you are trying to bring the adams apple to the spine) keep the elbow in and diagonal (I do this as it give more control) now go for a duck under, high crotch, headlock, etc. Pull the head down if he is a wuss drag him to the mat (you might even be able to do it with teh duck under). you pull he backes up then give a push also change level get teh legs. Ankle picks are really good to if you have good position. I rarely used it never a good move for me, but if you can work that technique it is very good

And what are some good clinch entries? What are some good takedowns besides the lateral drop and the leg trip?
          .
Ask your coach about the Duck-under cradle.

          • I went to subfighter.com lately anf looked up some wrestling takedowns. In just about every take down, i see them drop to one knee and shooting instead of taking a penetration step first. So what gives? And when i do the penetration step, is there such a thing a stepping too far out?

Thanks for all tyhe info guys, wish me luck for the match tonight.

            • Well there is a penetrating step I dont know if subfighter is the best source for wrestling if they are showing it as you describe. Go to an actual wrestling resource. I was taught and teach to imagine circles around a guys feet. You step into his attack zone and drive through aka the penetration step. you never just to drop a knee there is no power and its easy to get caught there. The only thing that should drop is your hips lower than his hips otherwise its a penetrating continuous motion.

Penetration step -> Change level -> follow through with take down.

I'm supposed to step then change levels? I could have sworn the people on my team change levels first.

It all happens at the same time.

                      • Some kid had his head bent all the way down to his chest, and we had to call 911. And to make things worse, there was no JV .
When I shoot for the takedown, would it work if i do the penetration step and then shoot, or am i better off changing level and stepping at the same time?

                          • Another problem I am beginnning to realize is that I am not setting up my shots. The only set up i know is the tap but everyone expects taht these days. Do you know some good setups?

                            • I've been having a lot of success from the 2on1 and have been trying new moves lately. I've been trying the crucifix and the banana split. For the crucifix, once i get the hold on, do i want to turn into him or away form him?

I find the best set up is to be really physical with your opponent. You like to tie up, so tie up and knock him around a bit. Work the collar and jerk his head around, give him a smack to the back of the neck (just enough to not get called) drive a good solid hand to the shoulder, and otherwise make him think about something other than defending the shot. Unless he is a pretty cool character, you'll find him standing up too straight and leaving openings for you to exploit.
