Think of a shot as a 'step', not a 'dive'

So once I "step" into positoiin, I lift up and throw them on the side for the double leg right?

Well, you're kinda jumpin' ahead a few steps. There are a bunch of possible finishes depending on a lot of factors, not the least of which is how you set up and execute that initial 'step' (oh, and the other fella might have somethin' to say about all this as well)

Just thought i'd update you on my progress. Football is over, now we're going full speed. The coach is a slave driver, i lost 3 pounds of water after doing his exercises...I seriously need to improve my cardio. Also, I did it! I can do the single and double leg takedowns now !

Yeah, you'll for sure thank him for the cardio later. When I first started wrestling, I was stronger and faster than everyone in my weightclass so I got kinda cocky after I sprawled out on a few guys when they attempted double leg takedowns on me, and completely worked them from there. However, after about ten minutes of basic drills we started to free wrestle with the guys in our weight classes. After about 30 seconds to a minute of trying to pin my opponent, who was more skilled that I, I became dead tired and I was getting my ass handed to me left and right for the remainder of the practice--excluding the first 10 seconds of freewrestle . Basically, what I'm trying to say is, without the endurance, all your opponent has to do is wear you out through 30 seconds of hard wrestling, and he'll win while you're struggling for air. Two things that always helped me, were very simple. Does your coach tell you to quickly tap the on the forehead / between the eyes before you shoot? If he does, get quick at that. If he doesn't, make sure your coach is cool with it. You'd be surprised at how much deeper your shot will be when he blinks. Also, get good at sprawling, b/c it's a lot easier to wrestle when you're on top , I'm sure you've already figured that out though. Last but not least, no matter what coach tells you, never sink down to "checking the oil" of your opponent. He, he. I can't believe there are sodomizers out there who actually do that crap.

Due that is just sick, did people really do that at some of your matches. If that happened to me I would have been disqualified beating his ass, eff' the team points.

I saw a freshman match when I was in HS and this dude got a hard on during the match. I was a senior at the time and the freshman, I talked to him after the match (I was like a mentor I guess) and gave him credit he kept his cool and pinned the guy quick...I don't know if I could have thankfully I will never have to find out

BJJ - I know you study BJJ do you see a difference in the conditioning? You have to wrestle to be in wrestling shape, those workouts will definately pay off later in the season. 1-2 minutes periods may not seem long...but this nonstop high out put movement.

whoa there! Don't tell the lad to do the same thing everytime he shoots or you'll be settin' him up to get tooled. Let's not oversimplify and teach bad habits from the outset.
