LOL Ipon, yeah. I swear my coach told us that if we're ever in a real jam, to just check their oil, and they'll let go real quick. However, I can gladly say that I've never experienced it first hand, giving or recieving.

However, when you do it you can use it to throw them off also, make them think you're gonna shoot when you're not, ya know. I couldn't fully explain to you how I used it so I won't try.

I.E. Tap, shoot take down, and go from there. If there is a next time tap, make them respond by almost falling into sprawl position. Maybe you can hook and arm and sink a half nelson from standing position if you're quick and strong. plus it takes a lot out of them when they hit the ground in a half nelson from a standing position.

This isn't an exact method or anything, just trying to give you an idea.

One more thing, when attempting to wrap someone up in a cradle, always walk their head to their knees.

BJJ - I know you study BJJ do you see a difference in the conditioning? You have to wrestle to be in wrestling shape, those workouts will definately pay off later in the season. 1-2 minutes periods may not seem long...but this nonstop high out put movement.

I find a major difference here. In Bjj, you can practically take a break by lying on your back and controlling your opponent in the guard, wearing him out and catching yoru breath at the same time. So in wrestling i'm guessing the free wrestle will be different, i don't know yet though the free wrestling starts today. I'll keep you posted on this.

Alright guys I have a request.I have found that it is hard to take down someone bigger and heavier than me so i tweaked my takedowns abit so it works on them too. The question that I want to ask is once I get a double underhooks clinch, what are some of the better ways to throw them down on the mat from there?

Double underhooks?! Whoever is letting you in like that kinda sucks! You can do pretty much what you want from there. Watch out for a head and arm toss though. I would say a bearhug or an inside trip, but that might be tough if you're wrestling someone bigger than yourself. If you have that position you could always just drop down to a single, since you've already posted the arms in a way.

What I had luck with...
I always had luck with bigger guys than I, who were usually slower, was a good old single leg, with your leading (not driving) foot hooking their heel in the process. It's not all that easy to land, but you have a better chance with a bigger slower opponent. It's also nice because from there you one of their legs in your control.
What I had bad luck with....
TEll me if it's like this for you too, I had a bad time trying to keep the guys I'd practice with that were out of my weightclass by a lot, in a half nelson long enough to pin them. I almost always had to resort to a cradle.
And you're definately right about the conditioning, it's hell.

BJJ: Remember it is practice not win/loose. You are, IMO, in a great scenerio for training it is better to mix it up an work with heavier guys for confidence and technique. When you get back into weight classes, you will be that much better.

With that said, don't make any changes to the technique but maybe the strategy. I was about 175-180 and routinely worked out with the HW I did change the technique. Just like MA you, may need to unbalance the guy first. I was very quick so I never had a problem shooting for the single/double. However, my preference was arm drags to single, TD, cradle etc and the high crotch to a single. Big guys always wanted to lock because they gas quick and so did my asthmatic ass so I made sure they had to work.

If I understand the underhook correctly, not like a whizzer, more like a bear hug. Follow jubaji's advice. You can throw (suplex) but that is a skillful move and you just started I know you practice BJJ but I am saying in the context of wrestling the result of the throw is different). Remember in a match you are responsible for your opponent safely landing. So trips are better. But if you want to learn ask your partner or coach to show how to do it properly and practice slow for a few days then add to your arsenal. The bad thing about locking to throw (which you should not get overconfident in practice) is that unless you get it quick it can easily be countered (that the skill part also) tripping is better because to don't have to stay committed to the lock but when you throw you are.

Not trying to argue IPON, good advice, but b4 he suplex's a guy, I don't think it's freestyle season yet for H.S. In traditional suplex's are illegal. I know I always did them when i got tired, ehehe.

Also, yeah, I've been impressed with this thread, too.

Choy you are right. I guess I was just thinking of options. But suplexes can get you in touble if you do them incorrectly someone can really be hurt, and you are right they may be illegal now that I think about it in HS

Be careful about fallin' in love with these underhooks. You may end up standing up too straight and/or walking right into a head and arm toss (which sucks). If you become a one-trick pony, folks will figure you out by and by. On the other hand, you could dig around for the underhooks sometimes without the intention of getting them, and set up a nice double or a foot sweep when your opponent pulls back (to avoid the hooks, and this usually makes someone straighten up a bit at the same time). Just be careful to not become one dimensional. Oh, and don't lean forward too much while working for them hooks. Oh, and be sure to keep your elbows in close while pummeling in for the hooks. Oh, and look both ways before crossing the street. And don't run with scissors, don't go swimming for an hour after you eat, and never just assume that a hooker in Vegas is really a woman...

Dude if you think that's bad you should move to thailand Well thanks for all the tips everyone, they helped alot. Oh and jubaji, these guys are ranging form sophomores to seniors(112-260 pounds). Peace.
