Not all schools have a scrimage, basically it is a big practice with 1-2 other schools that are not in your group (schools you won't compete with). An exhibition match is just that usually freshman sometinmes JV. Basically there may be alot of byes and the coaches let their second string get experience. Honestly I have not seen that many exhibitions. I was trying to understand what match you had since you are not starting

With the double I would think behind the knees. NOT DIVE - penetration (you should be doing the drop step drills). If you are grabbing the hamstring you will loose control(generally speaking).

        • WOOT! It was a pin btw. I had the guy in a side mount. The second the match started, i 'tap and go'ed' got a double leg in, but he got out somehow(don't remember that many details). I shot a double leg again the second I got back up and got it. I took him down. I jumped to the side and just got in side control and held on tight.

Ah ha! I told you frequency will get you that takedown. Keep on shootin' and you'll get there.

And now you've gotten a taste of the drug...

If you could get someone to video tape your next match, that can be a good learning tool.

            • If i do get a video, i'll try to put it up for you guys to see. And yup you guys were right, frequency is key

              • I love the nearside cradle with the head to their ribs. SWEETEST THING IN THE WORLD!
Well anyway I was wondering abouta few things. First, should I explode with great speed when wrestling or should I do it medium speed? When I explode I guess i can be faster than the other guy and have an advantage there but I think the moves may be a little sloppy sometimes. On the other hand I can do it normal speed but sometimes It's not good enough, what do i do?
And Second, Lately I've been doing two things when wrestling, Grapevining both legs and grape vining one from top position. I just loe how much control those positiong give you. What are some moves I can do from grape vining one leg?

P.S. HOLY SHIT MY GOVERNMENT TEACHER DOES BJ! HOW COOL IS THAT!?

                • BJJ please be a little more speecific, are you discussing stand up, TD etc.

regarding teh grapevive it should be a double. the reason for teh grapvine is to prevent a bridge and possible reversal. When I grapevined I just underhook the arm and put the knuckles in the sternum and wait for the whistle

I think he's talking about throwin' in a leg ride. In which case, this could be kinda complicated to explain in a post.

You know that would make sense I thought he meant a turk also, but I was defiantely a leg wreslter. Let's see cross body ride

You really need to practice this alot before trying in a match. When you throw that leg first is has to be tight your knee should his knee one direct and foot push in teh other direction. Grab the arm from the opposite side of the body (threw leg on left side grab right) put around neck, if you can't get the arm around the neckgrab teh bicep and arm like a tilt and you should still get back points or lock the knee on the opposite side for a spread eagle. The trick is balance you can easily get a defensive pin if you lay on your back.

It really is easier to show than explain. Especially throwing the leg initially that is key, I mean it really should hurt the guy when you throw it that is distraction you need to get the arm or knee

Me, not so much. As far as the young man is concerned, I don't think its such a hot idea to get into it too much at his current stage of development. Too many opportunities for someone who knows to counter and he'll end up in real trouble. I say stick to the basics for now.

                        • Definately agree. leave it in th wrestling room for now. Practice and get good with teh basics befor you move on. Concentrate on the cradle and tilt series on teh ground and you TDs then after practicing that go to some wrestling camps and tournaments over the summer.

Uh, should you be mentioning that in public?

                            • Well I was talking about the burst of speed in the beginning when on refferee's position(top or bottom). Could that be good or bad? and for the spread eagle thing, I think I got the picture. Just one question though, when you pull the arm up and put it around your head, do you position your hands like the 'spininator'(that's what the other guys call it I'm not sure if it's the real name), the one where you wrap both your forarms around his bicep?

Yes, it can be good or bad.

Work more on your form and fundamentals now. And conditioning. You'll use your speed when you need to, but in practice the focus is on skills. Basic skills.
