      • I took a forfeit that time, I'm usually JV. You see, Normally we would've just let it go but our 135 pounder was the state champ(our trump card) so we definitely needed me to take a forfeit and moved the weight classes around. Oh and jubaji, I am now 137 pounds(same diet and everything) so booya .I got another match tomorrow night, wish me luck.

          • Alright quick question(And i'm praying to god you answer this before the match). Should I do a quick-short-penetration step (when i shoot), or a deep penetration step that may not be as quick?

It has to be both. Sorry.

              • So it has to be both quick AND deep?

Please shoot in quick and deep, but most importantly - commit yourself fully to your shot. Half-assing a shot will most definetly get you sprawled upon - go in him like a truck, and adjust accordingly (i.e. if he sprawls on your initial shot, make sure you're deep enough to transition to an outside single, etc. etc.). I've been shot in by wrestlers with great initial shots that I've been able to sprawl on and pretty much neutralize their attack - the ones who have great initial shots but also keep going from move to move, forget about it, they'll get you somehow.

Shoot hard, shoot fast, don't think over it too much, and keep attacking!

Best regards (and good luck with your match!),

                    • Alright guys i've come across another problem . From the ref position i don't knwo what i should do. The two things i've done is grapevining one leg and both. I hate to do the same thing all the time and also, if they fail, there's hell to pay. I was thinking about getting a two on one, break him down and go from there, good idea? yay or nay?
And I have a match Wed.to everyone out there who cares.

                        .
Excellent idea. Control that wrist and you can work a lot of things.

                        • You are finally using wreslting language....you have come so far young grasshoppah

Seriously, I assume you mean from the top position.....the goal is control.

break down the arm yes get a 2 on 1,

                          work cradles,

if he stands knee pinch to cradle

if you feel you are faster and have better TDs let him up then TD and ground control

If he does not sit on the ankles, set up directly in back and knee pinch the ankle to prevent standup...work cradles

If he sits back suck him back (underhook on toes) for his back to the back points or pin

ETC ETC ETC you have a lot of options.

One thing you should not do is throw legs from the ref position (actualy I think this a turk not a grapevine if I understand you) you 1. need much more practice and 2. you need to break down the person first. Trying this too early you are looking at a reversal and possibly getting stuck. Like I said before stick to basics and leave the advace moves in the wrestling room until you perfect it. You can win all your matches with basics especially at JV.

                          • Work the 2 on 1, ankle ride, you can throw in an iowa ride with the ankle ride. If you are a quick shooter as said before partier and take him down as soon as he stands up. The vine is a rather advanced position but the key is hip on hip pressure. If your hips are higher then his in the vine you have problems. Work and arm bar or two while he is broken down you can always do the thread the needle stack. Look for your cradles (the bow cradle and standard) and throw some halfs(regualr and power) to wear him down.

                            • I agree with what xero and mr.ipon have said with the possible exception of just letting him up to get the takedown. Unless you are workin' the points for a tech fall or somethin' sneaky, I say break him down and make him hurt first even if you do figure on letting him up (time permitting). Throw some pointless crossfaces, put your weight on his upper back and force the air out of him, put your forearm across the back of his neck/base of skull just to rub his face in the mat. Make him hate you first, then let him up and see how bad his defense has become!

                              • Actually, I have had no trouble so far for the double grapevines. If I suddenly end up to high and he tries to get some back points by laying down, I just unhook one leg and kick us back to on his all fours. Once he goes to his belly, generally he can never get back up because i kick his feet out.

Today, I was wrestling some other kid on the team. He had better takedowns and sprawls, so i decided to enter into a clinch. After a few moments i realized that he was not as experienced in the clinch than I was and i was able to control the tempo of the match. Is this a good thing? Should i continue this? And what are some good clinch entries? What are some good takedowns besides the lateral drop and the leg trip?

Lately I have also done another pinning combination. It is where the opponent is on his stomich, you bar one arm, you grab his wrist on his other arm, then walk around so that he is on his back and i am on my stomach. I waswondering if i coulddo this with 2 bar arms instead of one bar arm and a wrist grab.
