    If it takes that long.

Jin Fist I understand what you are saying, but you have to also understand something. I kdon't think a fighter has to go into a MMA and be a grappler, a standup fighter can beat a grappler sure, but it is MMA. If a shaolin stylist decided to go into the ring NO EXCUSES you will win or loose. Yes there are rules, yes it is a combat sport, could it be a different fight it were on the street possibly, but it is not it in a ring. I hate excuses, if you loose you loose. I am not attacking you, but the concept. you have to be realistic about styles and teachers. Like I said before, I would like to see the fight but if they complained about grappling that says something, which is not too good.

A fight vs. a Gracie w/out grappling? Ha, ha, ha....I could get my grandma to take that fight But, I'd really love to see a Shaolin Monk fighting K-1, Pride, UFC, anything! They wouldn't have to win to make me happy, just hold their own. Ya know, bust someone's face open, somewhere. Nose would be nice.

One more thing...Is there any way that you could prove that this idea isn't just bogus? To say that this thread sounds a little fishy is a massive understatment. It sounds to me like someone is just trying to stir trash.

What a joke. These 2 clowns would get mopped up in the ring. I'd love to see these guys get knocked out.

Bye the way SHAOLIN is by far the best martial art as its the mother of all martial arts!
If your idea of mother of martial arts is where it all started then i'd have to disagree. Martial arts started somewhere in India and made its way to China.
Let's assume that Shaolin is the mother of martial arts. How is that supposed to make it the best? Here's an analogy. If, and I mean IF your mother dropped out of high school at the age of 16 due to drugs, turned to prostitution at age 17, got pregnant at age 19, married your father, father wasn't a bright man(worked in a factory), when your mother was at the age of 20 or 21, you were born. Looking upon your face she realized her wrongs when she was young and decided to do her best not to make you end up like her. You go through highschool and college with a good gpa, find a decent paying job, does that make you more stupid than your hooker mother and factory working father?

To answer you original post, along with this one - from my knowledge, UFC and Pride are MMA tourneys. This means grappling allowed. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it looks like they'll have to develop a ground game if the hope to compete in those tourneys.
They'll be better off in just pure standup competitions with no grappling allowed, K1 I believe?

Also, as far as your science analogy goes . . .that's just the very reason why MMA tourneys were started - for the longest time, everyone was wondering what would happen if a boxer went up against a TKD guy, or a kung fu vs. wrestler, etc. etc. For the longest time the answer was "it just wouldn't happen". That's when UFC and Pride and all other MMA tourneys stepped in to answer the question. Read up on a bit of the history of mixed martial arts, and you'll see where your science analogy really isn't "wrong", but it can use some fine tuning.

Also, for you to state that Shaolin is the best of all martial arts then say grappling is unfair . . well . .it's a little contradictory on your part. Wrestling / grappling / submissions is its own martial art in itself, and without knowledge in these areas, you'll just end up like all the other poor schmoes pre-UFC and Pride days who got taken down and couldn't do a thing. I'm not raggin' on you . . I'm just asking you to open your mind up a lil more to see why events like UFC and Pride are here today.

                Best regards,

                Seifer2399

So are they entering? I actually went to a site which said one of its articles coming up was a monk entering the UFC. I could not find the sites e-mail so are your dudes entering?

Any average kung fu master could beat Riyce gracie
LOL!!! That is the most absurd statement that I have ever heard. What a joke! Not that Royce is the best BUT he can certainly clean up the avg Kung Fu Master. I have personally seen Kung Fu Black sashes getting tapped out by white belts. I'd love to see how a Kung Fu master would do against a real master like Royce Gracie..

In an MMA format, they tend to loose. Case in point Jason De Lucia vs Royce Gracie (UFC 2). De Lucia got taken down and mounted by Royce. De Lucia bridges, but gives up his arm which Royce secures and armlock. De Lucia taps out.

De Lucia never had a chance to throw one kung fu technique.

I'd like to see San Da vs. Vale Tudo. That would be awesome!!

In a mma format they tend too lose? Then what platform does kung fu( not counting sanda) work?

Kung-fu theatre on Sunday afternoon of course...jj. I don't know? I don't hold any rankings or have any experience studying kungfu, but I have fought against kungfu stylists in open martial arts tournaments (in the mid 90s). Some of the kung fu guys had pretty fast hands, but didn't have knockdown power unless they were doing sweeps.

I'm probably the wrong person to ask. I could see kungfu being pretty street effective against an untrained assailant without technique.
