Has anyone ever seen "Brazilian Brawl?" I thought it was some crappy south american film....then i realized the MACHADO BROTHERS play the main characters. Its a complete piece of cinematic crap (though its got one or two weird cameos by famous american actors) but the fights are pretty cool. Lots of BJJ action, replete with bad acting and a terrible plot. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy about people who say you can beat a BJJ guy on the ground by biting and stabbing the eyes and throat when one of the Machado's bites a guys ear off in a prison brawl.

Isn't that the movie where Dan Inosanto plays the Machado brothers's uncle (or is it father)?
Marc Denny also plays two separate people in the film - they have to be two separate people because both of them get killed!

Yup, the uncle. Its a pretty odd movie, but the fighting in it is pretty cool. Its interesting how the Machados, and i realize this is a movie so im taking it with a big grain of salt, don't go to the ground unless they're forced to in most of the fights. In a lot of the fights it just happens to end up there, but they rely on lots of throws and strikes when standing up. Plus , one of the brothers fires a shotgun in each hand in the final gunfight, which is something I hope we'll get to in my BJJ class....But seriously, i've never really seen the machados fight, and there is a scene in a BJJ training session where they're discussing techniques with a group of senior students in preparation for a competition, so its a great glimpse of world class fighters and some of their techniques. Makes me pumped for class tonight...

I actually saw that movie recently at Blockbuster...I was very tempted to rent it.
Wasn't one of the Machado brothers in one of the Kickboxer movies? I think it was Kickboxer III - the one where it turns out that Tong Po actually runs a drug syndicate somewhere in Mexico and the main character's wife is kidnapped and held captive by Tong Po? The plot is somewhat reminiscent of Enter the Dragon with Tong Po bringing in assorted martial artists to fight over who gets to work for him. It also had Michelle Krasnoo in it and in her first fight, she starts throwing kicks at the main character's head while yelling "eat me!" defiantly...then he takes her back and chokes her out.

ok this is really weird, i rented this movie 3 days ago and its sitting on my living room table in front of me. lol, it was on a VERY low budget but its a BJJers wet dream. i rented it because i train under john machado and he told me about it, it was kinda cool cuz a few of the actors are johns students and i know them. the big four door truck they use in the movie, ive ridden it, that was really cool seeing it and saying hey, ive ridden in that truck.
as for the kickboxer movie, its john and one of his brothers that fight, i havent seen it yet but he said it was pretty cool.

If you guys can get the Kickboxer sequel, see it!
It was frickin' hilarious seeing Tong Po as a Central American drug lord sitting around running his "empire" while dressed in nothing but Muay Thai shorts!!!!

Not the worst movie ever
I'm going to agree slightly with arsen. I saw that movie about a month ago. Well actually, I got tired of the movie took it out, assumed the good guys won, and put in the next flick, "Fist of Fear, Touch of Death". I got as far into "Fist" as some guy explaining that Bruce Lee had been assinated by triads using a Dim Mak technique called vibrating palm. So then I put “Brazilian Brawl” back and watch the ending fight.
“Brazilian Brawl” isn’t the worst movie ever, that prize goes to “Ed Wood”, but “Fist of Fear, Touch of Death” is a contender.
