  • how often should you train to become "decent"

hey guys, im going to start bjj soon and i was just wondering how much time i should commit to it (time and money arent really factors) i was thinking of going somewhere along the lines of 2-3 times a week (2hr classes)

how much do you guys train normally?? if any of you guys have any advice please feel free to post

    I'd train 4 days a week, 2 hours a day to start.

That's about how much I train, sometimes more, sometimes less.

To get a Blue Belt usually takes around 120 hours of documented instruction (usually on a timecard signed by your professor), and then passing the blue belt test.

      bjj

When I first started I trained 5 days a week, 2 hour classes. After a few months, around 3-4, I started going 2-4 times a week. To get "decent" that depends on you. How well you learn moves, understand transitions, defense, and all that.

      Advice:

Take notes after class. A refrence and also to view progress.

Books. There is some on www.amazon.com that are good reading.

Web. Here are some sites I visit.

A good site with info, tech's, and streaming video under the "student association then online sample page." The price is outrageous, but the samples are good.

A nice forum, and where you can the book BJJ the master text, highly recommended. Also BJJ basics.

Traditional and Brazilian JJ. Lots of Tech's, and other info.

Official Gracie site. Lots of tech's, pics, and other info. Links to websites, belt ranking for students and instructors... however it hasnt been updated recently.

streaming video of fights from bjj and mma tournaments you can view free online. It even has vintage footage of Helio Gracie and Judokan Kato!!!!!

Hope that helps, let us know how BJJ goes.

HI! Traditionally in USSR in sambo or judo for beginner minimum is 3 training session a week on tatami and 2 conditioning @ special physical trainings a week. That makes it 5. Get 3 trainings at the school, and do resistance and/or track @ field training on you own
