Wasn't Paul V. the "Polar Bear" or something like that?

Yes he was, but if you watched his previous performances I dont think you would be very impressed. He said he was a world class trap fighter but he never did anything but strike and huff and puff.

That was going to be my next comment, I don't think I saw him win a fight.

Well he won the previous UFC, the one right before he had to fight tank. So he did win a few but it was due to his size.

Yep. Trap fighting isn't even a real style. Watch him fight. The only reason he beat anyone is because you have TKD black belt guys try to go toe to toe with him and get sat on.

              Kimo beat him in UFC.
That Brazillian Vale Tudo guy beat him (can't remember his name now) in UFC.
              Vovchanchyn beat him in IFC.

Most of the reputable fighters half his size beat him. Tank beat him.

Trapfighting is very real. I've been training in TF for past five years and it's a very solid fighting style. It incorporates wing chun standup techniques with wrestling and some crude submissions. We have tournaments regularly and the fighting is real. Paul Varelans is the grandmaster of this style and all of us try to emulate his fighting techniques and unparalleled skill.
Paul Varelans took Mark Hall down and submitted him with a keylock in under a minute. This is the same Mark Hall that Don Frye made love to for nearly all of regulation.

Varelans vs Kimo was the worst fight I've ever seen. Varelans lay on top of Kimo for about 15 minutes until both of those fat slobs were so tired they couldn't move anymore. Then finally Kimo somehow sloppily took Varelan's back and applied a rear naked (without any resistance from Varelans).

Did you say all of this with a straight face? You all try to emulate being a fat slob who just lays on his opponents and doesn't even try to win. Varelans got lucky enough to get past a few people to win, that's why he didn't just fade away he vanished. The only thing that kept him going was his size, and as mentioned when up against a prime fighter he'd be put down.

                    found his records.

The industry pioneer in UFC, Bellator and all things MMA (aka Ultimate Fighting). MMA news, interviews, pictures, videos and more since 1997.

he is 9-9 not a good record at all. He only submitted one guy. The rest were from punches. I mean come on the guy is like 300 lbs and almost 7 feet tall of course he will have power in his hands. Sorta the same thing as bob sapp, the guy has no talent just power...

The first fight I saw him in was against Joe Moreira. Joe was like 100 lbs under his weight and paul towered over him. The only way he won the fight was because he was always on the offensive. Joe didnt have any experience against someone his size. And on almost every exchange Joe got the better of him. He just came in with a kick and then threw a looping hook and caught him every time. He won but couldnt continue....

If he is the grandmaster of the style then he isnt really one to look up to. He really didny have too much skill, his size made up for it all and when he fought a good striker got his ass handed to him.

Mark hall gave up 110 pounds and 8 inches to him.... and he is a tae kwon do practioner.... Not bashing it but his grappling wasn't really there...
