In your opinion what do you think would be more beneficial? 6 months in thailand at say fairtex or a year in China at the northern china shoalin martial arts academy?

I am looking more for actual fighting potential and I know that most people would say MT of course. But the conditioning for kung fu just seems so good. A lot of the training is making every part of your body much tougher. The only real reason I am unsure is the cost. It only cost about 5 grand and it costs about the same for fairtex for 6 months.

That would be the only real reason I was looking more into china. But I would rather the MT because that is what I more interested.

Anyway I just wanted some other peoples takes on this.

Both options are good ones that you can get a lot out of. In any case its more a matter of what you put in that counts.

Sorry, I know I havent helped, just pick the one you like the sound of !

6 months in Thailand, there are more enclosed places than fairtex. But if you get a top notch camp 6 months in Thailand would be great.

Conditioning in Thaiboxing, lol, I would probably think Thai training in Thailand is a little more tougher than Kung Fu in China, I met a lot of kung fu guys coming to Thailand from all over the world, they didnt last very long training.

In fact a lot of people in general lasted 2 hours, a day, 3 days, damn they come and go.

      Thailand,

morning, 06:00 - 10 km run on the balls of your feet.after run, a little dynamic stretching, some shadow boxing in rounds then on to pad work.
Hard pads with trainer, 5-7 rounds of 7 minute rounds (extremely tiring) after the pads you move onto the bag, do 5-7 rounds on teh bag, after than grab a partner, a little soft sparring for 5-7 rounds, after that you then do usually 20-30 minutes of pure standup clinch grapple, this is pretty hard going and can last longer. After that general fitness, teep kicks 100+ each leg on the bag, kicks 200+ each leg on the heavy bag and also knees straight and side, 300+ situps, 200+ pushups, neck lifts, 100+arm curls... after all that have a little stretch down go grab some food and rest.

      morning session over.

ok, afternoon. 16:00 - 15 minute warm up jog or 30 minutes skipping with the heavy plastic tubing rope. Sometimes we'd have jumped up and down on an old lorry tyre to develop calves and also after the jog or skip, **** this was hard on the muscles. After warm up session move onto pad session with trainer, 5-7 rounds again 7 minute rounds, now a little more intense, after the pad session onto bag, same again on the bag, then onto sparring with partner and standup grappling. general fitness as above to finish off.

every second day we'd have full power sparring sessions but only usingteh hands.

This is only an average day. There is nothing done that has nothing to do with the development of your fighting ability.

The days can change routine, the training is very very reptitive and can drive you mad at times but the skill level you will posess after 6 months will blow most experience fighters away when you return home.

      Mate go to Thailand.

        wow! 5000!!! for 6 months.

Hmmm.... I am going on 28th December, taking with me £1000, out of that buying a ticket home whenever I feel like coming back.

Mate find a different camp. A tip : You shouldnt pay anything if you fight for them.

This is slightly off topic, but I have a quick couple questions about Thai training...

Is the routine you (S. Anucha) describe a five day/week deal?

Also, is this a pretty normal routine for pro thai fighters (in Thailand)?

Thirdly, I've heard that fighters in Thailand often fight two or even three times/month. Is this accurate?

          Thanks for allowing the digression.

Yeah I was pretty settled on thailand. Maybe I will go to china some other time. But the 5 grand was for meals and lodging and all that jazz.

This is what I worked it out for two camps

            FAIRTEX(with food)
            1 month 800 can 1053.16
            3 month 2400 can 3159.33
            4 month 3200 can 4212.50
            6 month 4800 can 6319.42

            WMC(no food)
            1 month 415 + (food)220= 630 can 844.40
            3 month 1245 + 660= 1905 can 2553.10
            4 month 1660 + 880 = 2540 can 3404.14
            6 month 2490 + 1320= 3810 can 5105.44

            can stands for canadian.

Its a little less expensive for WMC. Anyone had any experience with these guys? Also the food prices I was using is what I was quoted, Anucha what did you regularly spend on food a day or week or whatever.

that is just an average day, was anyway and soon to be another average day for me. Its a 6 day week, its really a 7 day thing but I do 6.

You can fight 2 fights in a month, if you are not injured (one of the reasons why Thai sparring is done so soft) you can fight pretty regular, I havnt done that but hope to when I get back next week, but the guys I trained with did. My teacher has a fight on 21st, 23rd and 26th of December, he has two kids and a wife to support.

Training routine can be slightly different from camp to camp. Styles of fighting are different but the teachers/trainers usually find your strong an dweak points then train you accordingly.

It is tough, that is not an exaggeration! But like everything you soon become accustomed to it all. The heat is the main enemy.

Its great as there are massage parlors for feet, head and body.

I forgot to mention, training in Thailand is a very laid back experience, the actual workouts are fantastic, I was never pushed to do anything, on pads is different as the pad holder shouts but everything else is done at your pace so its all up to you! if you wanna be extremely good then you have to put in the effort if you are a lazy guy then no one will push you. Its all down to what you want. Everyone helps each other out be he beginner or seasoned champ, we are all the same.

By the way, the reason why it is better to train in Thailand is because there you can live a professional Thaiboxing life.
