    Size and Strength

If size and strength didn't matter you wouldn't be hearing the Gracies claim that they can defeat men much bigger and stronger with their technique. So there must be some truth behind this myth. Then again the gracies come from machoistic roots.

If size and strength are accompanied by other attributes like speed, power, endurance, and technique, strength claims are more credible.

A while ago I posted on the significance of weight training, and found from my own experience that it held me back from achieiving in juijitsu (not NHB). Strength implies telegraphing. It's hard not to telegraph when you're tensing your muscles.

Since people woke up and smelled the coffee the Gracies have not beaten any skilled opponents that are bigger than they are.

        Miyagi:

I hate to do this to you, I of all people.

Renzo/Mo. Renzo gave up about 40 pounds and SMOKED him.

Worst of all, Mo's my hero.

The thing about Renzo vs. Mo is this...

First off, Mo's skills on the ground are defensive and work well against wrestlers. Thats why he's able to beat Coleman and had he been healthy I think he would've beaten Randleman. Mo doesn't have great skills on the ground and thats why a submission guy like Renzo can beat him.

Second off, this was in a tournament and Mo came off a hard fight which affected his stamina.

Third off, even though Mo is bigger, he isn't one to use his size unlike a Mark Coleman, who would eat Renzo alive IMO.

When I use the name Gracie generally, it means that I am referring to a group of braggarts in southern california.

                Mr. Miyagi

"Since people woke up and smelled the coffee the Gracies have not beaten any skilled opponents that are bigger than they are."

Didn't Royce Gracie defeat Nobuhiko Takada not too long ago? I believe Takada outweighed Royce by a considerable margin in that fight. That didn't prevent Royce from DOMINATING that fight, providing a textbook display of classic GJJ technique. Takada looked clueless in Royce's guard.

In addition to this, you seem to be forgetting the string of impressive victories Vitor Belfort has amassed in the name of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Names such as John Hess, Scott Ferrozo, and Tank Abbot are convincing testimonials to the effectiveness of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu techniques in helping to prevent it's practicioners from being hopelessly overwhelmed in elite MMA competitions by much larger, stronger, more athletic opponents that additionally possess considerable skill.

I will not comment on Vitor's vicories because I wasn't talking about him, if he claimed to practice Gracie Jui Jitsu he would get sued. Takada is not a skilled fighter and Royce "dominated" nothing, Takada was scared or else he could have won that fight too.

                    Size matters.
It's not the end all, but I put as much focus on getting big and strong as on grappling itself.

Kimura was the man Although he would have probably wanted you to say he did judo and not JJJ...though they come from the same place.

YeLLa, sometimes you have to self-train. Nothing wrong with that, and you can actually get quite good.
I rolled everyday for a year in a Machado school, but now I have no money, am in school full time, so all I can do is self-train
Keep it up, but always look for legit instruction to test out what you've learned.

                    Um...that's about it.

Nah, leave Ryu on. It fits with your name more. Besides, the off color Ryu really matches with the dark background. It looks really cool.
