  • Kuwait MMA tournament looks very intresting...

    Warriors War
    Kuwait
    Febuary 2001

Rules similar to Pride, 185 lb weight limit, 8 man tournament.

    Bracket A
Matt Hughes, Pele, Omar Bouche, Kareem Allah (local fighter)

    Bracket B
Dave Menne, Ricardo Liborio, Carlos Newton, Khared Mubarak (local fighter)

... Note Omar Bouche is from Bas Ruttens team a Pancrase veteran and normaly fights as a middlewight. This will be Liborio's debut in MMA but he is considered by many as one of the best BJJ'ers. Great to see those oil rich shieks putting some money into MMA. But I am wondering who will be the lucky two fighters that will get to face the local fighters or should I say cannon fodder in the first fight of the tournament?

    Wow, I'm getting this tape.

I think Khared Mubarak's name got mistranslated. Now I never heard of him, but I used to live in Kuwait and I am Arabian, so I should know the name. Especially since its my name =). Anyway, I believe its Khaled Mubarak just because I don't think I've ever heard the name Khared. Either way, I predict

    :: picking a random name ::

    Pele!

Actually, it could be any of those guys. Just whoever has the best day.

I didn't see this thread for some reason.

This tournament will rock ass... when the USS Cole got blasted I was sure there would be war. That meant thousands of lives lost... and the possibility of NO 2001 ADCC OR KUWAIT NHB.

      Damn!!!

I have to say that besides the local fighters, any one of the guys in the tournament can pull it off. My favorites to win will be Menne and Hughes. Liborio is an unknown as he lacks NHB experience... and Newton is awesome, but he has never beaten guys with this level of skill, especially in a tournament.

Perhaps Liborio can neautralize a great neutralizer in Menne... maybe Newtons explosiveness and strength will overwhelm Menne. Liborio is a bad matchup for Carlos I think.

Hughes will G&P the hell outta Pele or Bouiche (Pancrase and ADCC vet). But maybe Pele can land a few knees and wobble the Hughes monster.

        Another Bad ass tourney!

I heard about this tourney a month ago and definitely feel this is going to be one of the best 8 mans ever.

As far as who's going to win, Hughes all the way. The only person with any hope of taking him is Newton. He's fought some big boys and he might be explosive enough win, but Hughes is the best 170 guy world.

I know it's going to be great when he fights Pele. There's definitely no love loss between the two. I look forward to seeing Hughes destroying Pele in the process of further showing the dominance of wrestlers in NHB.

        later dudes....

            Matchups have been anounced...

            Matt Hughes vs Pele

            Omar Bouche vs Kareem Allah

            Dave Menne vs Carlos Newton

            Liborio vs Khared Mibarak

            hmmm...
Looks like the tourny was set up give the local fighters the best chance to advance but of course the likly result is that Liborio and Omar get easy 1st round fights giving them a considerable advantage in the tournament. But who knows those arabic fighters may pull a "Fujita"...

I wonder how easily or how hard it is going to be to get this on tape?

The Arab fighters will be cannon fodder. If they had the talent to beat Bouiche and Liborio we would have heard of them by now.

Matt Hughes vs. Pele is a guarantee!!!! WHOOOOO-HOOOOO!!!!

My heart wants Pele to win, but logic is saying to me that Hughes will win.
