Hello,
My experience with BJJ is extremely limited, but I think if you're willing to work you should be able to "hang" just fine.
Edit: I should add that I'm a skinny guy, but most of the people at my school were big guys. Some were very muscular, some were chubby, all could tap me out without much trouble.

Dude, the best thing I can tell you and the hardest for a guy is to drop the ego and just go in there and workout. Don't measure yourself by everyone else, we all can't be the best in the class. If you want to train then there is no reason you shouldn't give it a shot.

sounds good.. maybe theres a school thats missing a "big" guy in my area and needs a grappling dummy (me) haha.. im going to sign up i think in a couple of weeks as soon as i get some more $$ together. have you guys heard of Mauricio "Tinguinha" Mariano ? heres his website..
well he teaches a school im interested in thats about 15 minutes away but heres the deal.. i live about 45 mins from the Gracie Academy in Torrence,CA but what i was thinking is this.. if this guys prices are lower and i get more mat time would it be better to go there or to actually go to a gracie school ?? i know that gracie school is 1 hour classes and i would do the 2 times a week which is $140 a month... but i mean if this maurico guy has $100 and 2 hour class a week 2 times a week do you think it would be better ?? honestly $40-50 a month isn't alot of money difference to me.. so what do you guys think ?

Also here is what it says his history is...
Tinguinha has been taught by Professors Jean-Jacques Machado as well as Carlos Gracie jr.
i see that classes are 1 hour each.. hmmm decisions decisions...
this guy sounds pretty dedicated to BJJ and well taught.. i dont think he's running a mcDojo kinda sko0..

so do you think that extra 30 minutes drive is worth it ?? gracie might have alot more students ?? but then again how cool would it be to get taught by royce or rorion.. i should probably stop by both places and see what the classes are like but as for right now im leaning more towards the gracie studio...

[QUOTE=alwaysmixwell]that sucks theres no bjj studios by you.. o well california has everything and it close by.. what can i say. maybe you should move out here.[/QUOTE
the bigger the better. im 6 1 1/2 205lbs. i dont see any reason why being big would hinder you in bjj. ive been taking it for around 7 months now and train with some bigger folks and smaller folks. One tyhing ive learned is that although size may be an advantage, ITS ALL ABOUT TECHNIQUE, and thats it!!

i see Franco.. my main concern though was my size if i would be able to roll long periods of time.. and i also smoke so thats what i was wondering if i could actually keep up with the class because of my size.. im going to be signing up soon i think im going to check out some academys like next week and hopefully all goes well.. i think its going to be a great experience and i look forward to it !..
